Thanks for this. I've gotten tired of explaining all this and the history behind it.

Because Pan-Arabism failed. The only other thing to unite the violent cultures of Northern Africa and the Middle East is Islam, which was a last resort because the leaders of the Arab countries knew it could turn on them, like it did in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Syria.

Bottom line: it's about power.

Salafi/Wahabi jihadism is Pan-Arabism. It is what separates the Muslim Brotherhood, which is pan-Islamic, from these groups.

And everything failed in the Arab world. Nationalism, socialism, communism and democracy of an illiberal variety. For various reasons.

What do all four groups have in common?

Complete and total ignorance. I expect nothing more from this board.

Thanks for the clear illustration, btw.

No doubt that Islamic sympathies and tools (calling war "jihad") were used to attempt Pan-Arabism, but the Arab leaders from 1950-present did not want religion to dominate their cooperation or internal politics.

Am I wrong? It's the most immediate expression since the 60s, and while it pretends to be supra national, ISIS is dominated by Arabs, especially those from the KSA who get preferential treatment (relatively).

You're wrong. Pan-Arabism tended to be more secular than its opponents. Unfortunately it was also socialist and so certain countries who shall remain nameless tended to undermine it.

Here's the most well-known Pan-Arabist leader: LINK

Baathism was also a pan-Arabist movement and I'm sure you've heard of their two most famous leaders

Muslims, Islamists, Jihadists, Terrorists
ok i may need to make/bump this thread every time a major attack happens and all the "WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT ALL MUSLIMS" shite starts up. this is a handy guide on how to use basic words to describe different groups within the Muslim community

here is a very brief description of the 4 groups

1. Muslims - these are people who believe in the tenets of Islam. there are more than 1B on earth

2. Islamists - a subgroup of Muslims who believe that Islam should merge with state power to regulate societies

3. Jihadists - a subgroup of Islamists who believe in using force/coercion to install an Islamic state

4. Terrorists - a subgroup of Islamists who use terror attacks on civilians and non-combatants to further Jihadism

Why the outrage over these POS, yet nothing of your own government that continues to create, fund, and train them to cause chaos while the establishment conducts regime change in the ME to make their next fortune and save a dollar system that otherwise has zero value?

I'll hang up and listen.

Still waiting...

I know what Pan-Arabism is. Pan-Islamism doesn't describe what I mean exactly since the ethnic component plays such a large role in these groups. What I mean is they have the same impulse through different means, not that they are historically related. My apologies.

I am really trying to have an open mind and understand Muslim versus jihadists so I actually read through the following twitter thread. This Muslim breaks down why their religion and the Qur'an doesn't identify with this terrorism. Basically explains the terrorists are cherry picking. Read through his thread and let me know what you think.

Some Nazis who wanted to kill all the Jews and anyone not in their select

Some Nazis just wanted to force all non select people out of the country

Some Nazis just wanted policies that favored their select groups

Some Nazis just thought national socialism was better economically for their country

Some members of the KKK actively participated in lynchings and other violence towards blacks

Some members of the KKK just wanted blacks removed from the country

Some members of the KKK just thought white people were better than black people and wanted separate but equal

Some members of the KKK just thought white people were better than black people and really didn't give a frick about separate but equal they just wanted separate

Every last person in one of the above groups was a person deserving of shunning and shame and derision

So forgive me I don't give a frick if the Muslim down the road from me doesn't want to kill me. Well wanting to kill me is certainly the worst of the things it's not the only problem

your "point" doesn't make any sense

Lol my point is that Islam has so many different sects, divisions, branches, etc. that it is nearly impossible to define it like many try to do. Some believe Jihadism is ok, some believe jihadism is not ok, some believe jihadism is ok but they don't practice it themselves, some believe Jihadism is ok only in certain instances, some believe Jihadism is wrong but won't intervene, some believe its mis-interpreted, etc.

What responsibility do groups 1 and 2 have for reigning is the bullshite of groups 3 and 4? Cause I'm done with the left blaming people like me for the way they behave.
