Never understood why anyone would be upset that a mascot of a school honors "X" with picking X as their mascot.
Their is a reason nobody ever choose "losers" or "wimps" or Opossums as their mascot.
I wish one of these schools would pick me as their mascot. Omegamen!

Notre Dame being offensive is laughable. Find any Irish person who is legit offended by that and they’ll be beat down by their Irish friends. Fighting Irish is more than a clever name.

Are you too young to remember the stink some groups put on when the Cajundome was named? Some weenies wanted to call it the Lafayette Assembly Center. That died pretty quick.

It was the summer of 1970. Although a Centenary student I took a couple of classes at USL while home for summer vacation.
I was sitting in the student union reading the school's student paper. I think it was called The Vermillion.
There had been a push by some black students to change the name since not a lot of players were Cajuns.
Someone wrote a letter to editor and said, 'OK, let's change the name to USL Ragin Cajuns Plus Some N*****S.'
They printed it. And they did not use asterisks.
The football team at that time was still majority white but probably only a 1/4 were Cajuns.

Caledonia High School in Mississippi was the Confederates until the shitshow of Summer 2020. They switched to Cavaliers and kept the same logo.

I'd love to see Nichols change their mascot to the Fightin' Coonasses. The people down Bayou Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish would love it too. Hell, I'd buy season tickets even if I'd never get to a game.
