Yep. It all builds on top of each other. It's why we consider the Middle/Near East to be the cradle of civilization and most of our world history textbooks begin with the ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians. However, I doubt the Spaniards were inspired by an ancient civilization that had long since gone extinct to sail westward into the unknown.

It cannot be doubted, however, that the English were inspired by the successes of the Spanish Empire to sail westward in the late-1500s/early-1600s. And the fact that Spanish Florida was our 27th state in these United States, the melding of Spanish history into our national fabric could not be more appropriate.

It also makes sense that the story of St. Augustine and the Thanksgiving of 1565 did not make it into our national tapestry until very recently. Florida became a state in 1845 and the legends surrounding the Puritans and the Thanksgiving of 1621 had been forming for two decades prior.

Ken Burns is a liberal nut job. Just because you call yourself a historian doesn’t mean you don’t put your bias slant on events. Which he does.

Same with people who call themselves journalists. No you’re not. You’re a propagandist.

Where were these vessels discovered? Had they been there the whole time?

If you actually watched the entire episode you'd know that is an utterly false characterization of what Burns presented. You're just regurgitating modern white dude paranoia and greivance...

Burns painted the colonists as exceptionally brave and seeking to form a deocratic republic unlike anything the world had ever seen(he makes that point repeatedly over the course of the documentary. The brief mention of the
Iroquois early on doesn't change his intent...

I rolled my eyes through the first episode, the second one gets better. What none of the historians have brought up, or just glanced over, is how important the Christian faith was to the Colonists. It is well known that clergymen used the pulpit to support the fight against tyranny and their congregations across all the Colonies rallied around that message. The original Continental Congress held several days of fasting and prayer throughout the war. Of the 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, one two were not members of the church, Franklin and Jefferson.

It was news to me when the documentary talked about the six nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. I'm from up there and there were only five tribes when I was in school. The Tuscarora were never taught as being part of the Iroquois Nation.

Burns is a degenerate. Google him. That’s all you need to know.

I bailed 3 minutes into episode 1 when Burns tried to credit the the Iroquois Confederacy as the inspiration and guide for our nation's founding;.

Some of the concepts of the Houses of Congress came from the Iroquois, but to deny the overall Roman/Greeks libertarian thought roots is anti-European rubbish.
