Monmouth poll: Dem midterm lead nearly 100% evaporates as tax law improves

Dems, why is your generic ballot lead evaporating for 2018 midterms? It was as high as double digits only one month ago.

Pres. Trump's job rating now stands at 42% approve and 50% disapprove. While his net rating continues to dwell in negative territory, this is an improvement from his December low of 32% approve and 56% disapprove. The current results mark a return to the ratings he received in the late summer and early fall of 2017. Positive signs for Trump include an uptick in public opinion that he has been successful in moving his agenda through Congress and increasing support for the recently enacted tax reform plan.
quote:
Opinion is currently divided on the landmark tax reform plan - 44% approve and 44% disapprove. But this marks a significant increase in public support from December, when just 26% approved of the bill and 47% disapproved. Perhaps more importantly, fewer Americans (36%) believe that their own federal taxes will go up under the plan than felt the same when the bill was in its final legislative stages last month (50%). Still, the number who believe that their taxes will go up (36%) outnumber those who believe that their taxes will go down (24%) or stay the same (32%) under the new system.

In a look ahead to 2018,quote:
Democrats currently hold a negligible edge on the generic Congress ballot. If the election for House of Representatives were held today, 47% of registered voters say they would vote for or lean toward voting for the Democratic candidate in their district compared to 45% who would support the Republican. This marks a dramatic shift from last month, when Democrats held a 15 point advantage on the generic ballot (51% to 36%).

It's going to get even worse if the new crop of Republican candidates support the tax plan.

Yep...it's going to be funny when all of those blue collar mid westerners start seeing more money in their paychecks, and their retirement accounts getting bigger. I'm sure they're going to give that up to make sure a dude can pee in the ladies room whenever he wants.

But CNN told me yesterday that the democrats were in good position to take over everyrhing

44% still hate more money in their paychecks. Really weird.

And all of this prior to the the shutdown and the SOTU arse whipping being baked in.

With the list of competitive seats in the Senate, and the tax laws which will have been putting money in folks' pockets for 6 to 8 months - this will look more like a (R) wave election (at least considering it's an incumbent President's party doing the gaining) than a push, IMHO.
The House may be more of a push, but that should be a win for Trump, particularly if the Rs pick up 2 or 3 in the Senate (although that may be muted with Doug Jones - of course, that could be reversed if Manchin flips).

We trust polls now?
The lead has shrunk, but the average of the polls still has around 9% advantage. Long way to go until November though.

So, the "Big Blue Wave" is nothing more than a wet fart? Or in Hillary's case a shart!

The average still includes polls from last year
The average lead for January is like 5-6

I don't particularly trust the exact numbers of polls right now but I trust the trends of them.
The tide is turning. But you're right - a long way until November.

Here's your answer -
"Still, the number who believe that their taxes will go up (36%) outnumber those who believe that their taxes will go down (24%) or stay the same (32%) under the new system."
Check back in a few months when people realize they've been lied to by the leftist media and members of congress. Could get ugly for the left.

It's worse than it looks for them too because
quote:
Most voters still believe their taxes will go up under the new plan — 36 percent say they believe their taxes will rise, 32 percent said they expect their taxes will stay the same and only 24 percent believe their taxes will go down.
Most of THESE people are wrong and in short order, will know it. THEN, they'll realize they were lied to by the Democrats and the MSM on the subject.

You're taking over Toddy's role. He's the o e we wait for to eagerly post these generic ballot polls. If you'd have given him a minute, I'm certain he would have.

The Senators from purple States that voted against the tax bill are going to have a very hard time explaining that away.
