Well, they changed whistleblower rules to get us here, could they not change the Senate rules to get us out of here?

Senate and Mitch McConnell HAD to move forward with a trial if the House voted to impeach.
Not what he said, he was careful with his words. He said that the Senate had to "take it up" This might just mean that he could form a committee to look at it.

And that's the only reason I posted this because a lot of people last week said Mitch didn't have to do anything or even put anything up to a vote.
Believe it or not I heard multiple people say that on the news. This was on FNC or FBN. Looks like these purveyors of information were incorrect. For me, I am not versed in the rules of the senate and never will be.

I'm not trying to call those people out as there didn't seem to be a definite answer. I just found the whole issue interesting from a constitutional law perspective.

Is that bait? Because, that reads like bait

McConnell disallows hearsay and compels the whistleblower to appear and be confronted on record by Trump's counsel. Im excited about it. By that point the severe damage to the Democrat Party will have already been borne, but what will be interesting is the damage to the rogue members of the intelligence community.

From what I understand, the Senate has to take of vote one way or another.
Even if you find some way, some court ordered writ, to tell them they have to do their job, even then you still can’t force their vote.

If something like that happens Jabba or Pencil Neck or The Kang nor Nancy control a damn thing. Their side would be the prosecution but yes Trump gets to present a defense, and if I am not mistaken he would be able to depose who he wants. INCLUDING said "whistleblower"
They don't REALLY want to go there.
They don't REALLY want to go there.

Idk about that. His answer in that video plus his remarks to NPR back in March sound like he means going directly to trial.

Cocaine Mitch would have that trial over by lunch time on the first day.
I wonder though, given what happened in the Clinton impeachment, do the Democrats realize how this can all backfire? I mean Clinton was impeached and actually had a slight majority vote to convict, but he survived and emerged just as powerful as ever. Ask Gingrich and Bob Livingston
If you are going to kill the king, then you had better kill him fast because if he survives the hits, he's gonna come at you....and with this, if he survives a trial , draws Hillary in the general, survives this, he will have 4 years to deliver retribution to his enemies, because they will only get one shot at impeachment

turtle said they must take it up according to the rules. he didn't say a trial. just a vote I presume.

I half way think Trump wants to get impeached so that it will give him a chance to lay out evidence that the Dems really never want to see the light of day. He can show all his cards and the media is forced to cover it

I think a vote is still held with whoever is present in the senate chambers at the time the motion is presented.

Well I think they would probably consider an initial vote to dismiss the charges as part of the "trial" and thus satisfy their obligations.

Everything in the Senate is about procedure.
Mitch would schedule a vote on whether or not the Senate takes up the House indictment. If it doesn’t pass, then that’s where it dies, and Schiff, Pelosi & co. are back to square one looking for something else to get him on.
The House doesn’t dictate Senate procedure. All they can do is pass on what they have.

I agree that this is the likely outcome. I think the first step of the "trial" is a motion to dismiss the charges.

Mitch McConnell HAD to move forward with a trial if the House voted to impeach. I'm honestly surprised he said they would have no choice.
He said, “How long you are on it is a different matter, but I would have no choice but to take it up based on a Senate rule on impeachment.” McConnell is a lawyer. He is well apprised of Senate rules and language. Notice the word "trial" does not appear in phrases "on it" or "take it up".
Regarding 8 articles of impeachment, the 40th Congress was "on it" and did "take it up" IAW Senate rules, yet never held a trial on any of the 8 articles.

Will the president's defense have the freedom to introduce additional facts?
Probably call wittiness under oath?
Could the call Schitty Schiff to testify?
This is the opening for them go put all declass facts and other information officially on the record!

I’m still confused about the house right now
Doesn’t an inquiry require a vote?
This is going to be so confusing for the average American (think of average person in dmv line)
