It's probably been said somewhere in this shitshow, but the OP's headline is incorrect.

He doesn't need to hold a trial and never said he would be required to.

McConnell himself said that they would have to hold a trial. I'm not arguing the rules of the Senate, but I'd assume Mitch knows them. Everywhere I've seen online shows that he has said on 2 separate occasions that they would have to hold a trial, even a very short-lived one.

There needs to be a trial so Team Trump can subpoena all the guilty parties and get them to either confess or commit perjury in public view.

It would be the biggest mistake Deolmocrats ever made and I hope to see it.

Mitch McConnell will be around even after Trump is long gone and views himself as the True Republican Party.

Mitch will absolutely stab Trump in the back if he thinks that is the right thing for the Republican Party. Mitch cares about 2024, 2028, etc.
