Mitch McConnell: Senate must hold trial on Trump if House impeaches

There was a lot of debate last week regarding whether the Senate and Mitch McConnell HAD to move forward with a trial if the House voted to impeach. I'm honestly surprised he said they would have no choice. From what I read, there's precedence of the Senate refusing to conduct a trial. I guess his "2/3 votes to change that" remark gives him a way out of it. From what I understand, the Senate has to take of vote one way or another. That vote could be to dismiss the charges immediately I believe.

WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate would have "no choice" but to hold a trial on President Donald Trump if the House votes to put forward articles of impeachment.
The Kentucky Republican told CNBC that the obligation to hold a trial is part of Senate rules and it would take a two-thirds vote of the chamber to change that.
"I would have no choice but to take it up a based on a Senate rule on impeachment," McConnell said.

Dems certainly aren’t going to want this, because they won’t be able to control the narrative.

Do normal constitutional rules apply under Justice Roberts in the Senate trial?
Will President Trump have the right to face his accuser?
Will hearsay be allowed?

Will the president's defense have the freedom to introduce additional facts?

100%.
Let them proceed.

Being that the people wanting him out of office have nothing more than that, I assume it has to be allowed in this fantasy trial where everything is made up anyway.

it would be glorious if they were to conduct a trial.
Might make the dems a 30% party for decades.
All the lies and ties to DNC etc. Mr. Transparency would be exposed, or at least those that were working for him.
Dems are not smart enough to realize it but their controllers are and will not let them impeach.

You kind of left out part of the quote

But he cautioned, “How long you’re on it is a whole different matter.”

he did say they wouldn't have to spend a lot of time on it.

This.
Classic case of ‘be careful what you wish for’.

I think this is Cocaine Mitch's way of letting the "whistle blower" and the Dims know that she'll have to publicly testify and she'll have to name names.

And that's the only reason I posted this because a lot of people last week said Mitch didn't have to do anything or even put anything up to a vote.
