Mississippi Senate Race (D) leads by 28 votes

(D) Scott Colom. 462,779
(R) Cindy Hyde Smith 462,751
With 98% reporting
Provisional ballots will lean heavily to Colom
Absentee ballots will lean to Cindy. But most absentee ballots have been counted as they were fed directly into the machines. Only mail in ballots haven't been counted.
Seems likely Colom takes this. Perhaps the most stunning upset of the night.

definitely the most out of left field...
NO ONE, before tonight, had that on their bingo card....
shite, LA was a lot closer than I thought it would be... within 2 points in a Senate race in this state is pretty close

“I think that, like, South Carolina, Mississippi is highly competitive,” he continued. “I’ve never been able to really break through in people’s minds just how competitive Mississippi was.”
He added, “And the other race I would really—and not just because I’m a homer—I think the Louisiana Senate race is gonna come down to the wire. I really believe that.”
everyone gives Carville shite, but he saw this coming a week ago....

Cindy ran hard on her allegiance to Trump. Mentioned him in lots of her ads. "Proud supporter of Donald Trump".
Candidates need to talk about themselves. D or R they need to quit talking about Trump.

The dude hustled and ran hard. Showing up at the Trump rally and talking to the people standing in line was pretty smart.

Smith is not a strong candidate.

I agree but to be fair, the opponent ran ads that made it look like Barack Obama was his running mate.

Hinds County looking for votes as we speak

I thought she would win by at least 5 points. I don't think a Dem has won statewide since Musgrove won Governor. Oh well, shite happens.

I guess I'd be more upset if it actually mattered, but sadly it does not at this point.

While this and many other results are awful, I think it also puts some perspective on the Chicken Little "sky is falling" crowd who think Texas is the new California and a Republican will never win a race in Georgia again.
This was a nationwide trend and a perfect storm. Finicky republicans sat this election out. So did the MAGA never voted before crowd. Wishy washy independents and the angry at government crowd broke for the Dems. And the loyal, yellow dogs showed up in full force.
The Democrats built a political army and spent hundreds of millions of dollars to flip a Senate Seat in Texas. But all they had to do this fall was gather some signatures and put his name on the ballot with a D next to it. The rolling tides of political emotion would have done the rest.

Has any black Democrat ever won a statewide election in MS? I know there hasn't been a black Senator since Reconstruction, but obviously they were Republican.

The issue completely downplaying the cost of gas/deisel and groceries and not having a coherent message to assure the electorate. Constantly saying “we’ll be wrapping up the situation in Iran very soon soon” every week and showing no progress became tiresome. The economy is really pretty good the messaging is horrible.

CHS is the worst senator in the chamber. She hasn't passed a single piece of legislation in her time in congress. She couldn't even speak at her own rally. We tried to primary her but the primary candidate had openly supported Kamala in the previous election

Why did Bryant pick her in the first place?
There wasn't anyone out there more capable?

They have to be from Mississippi.

He didn’t want to look bad by picking himself, so he picked the female version of himself.
