Military considers using MOAB against Iran

The U.S. military has drawn up options for renewed strikes on Iran that include the potential use of one of the biggest non-nuclear bombs in its arsenal, CNN reported Thursday, as Tehran vowed to continue fighting for its demands.
The strike plans involve the possible use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, nicknamed the “mother of all bombs,” CNN reported, citing multiple U.S. officials familiar with the matter. CNBC has not independently confirmed the report and has reached out to the Defense Department for comment.
The 21,600-pound air-burst weapon is designed to affect surface targets over a wide area and has so far not been deployed by the U.S. in previous strikes on targets inside Iran. It was used in Afghanistan in 2017 during the previous Trump administration.
U.S. President Donald Trump said last week that he would not order a resumption of military strikes before the midterm elections on Nov. 3.
Tensions in the Middle East are nonetheless elevated amid the sinking of a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday and a string of fatal attacks on Saudi Arabia by the Iran-backed Houthis.
The White House is under mounting pressure to show progress in its Middle East objectives ahead of the midterms, as the American public increasingly feels the impact at home via soaring energy prices and wider cost pressures.
Tehran is reportedly strengthening its defenses around sensitive energy and nuclear sites in preparation for a potential resumption of attacks, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The USS Abraham Lincoln, pictured on Oct. 8 in San Diego, set a U.S. Navy record spending over 260 days consecutively at sea without a port call while playing a key role in Operation Epic Fury and regional maritime security operations in the Middle East.
Iran says it’s ‘counting the moments’ until it can strike U.S. warships; Saudi Aramco facilities attacked
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in a televised address late Wednesday that Iran must continue to use a combination of military and defensive capabilities, negotiations and regional strategic leverage to push the U.S. to accept its demands.
Officials in Tehran have previously listed demands including Washington lifting its naval blockade and sanctions and withdrawing U.S. military forces from the region.
Ghalibaf said Tehran’s goal is not to be locked in an endless war, but to prevent the U.S. and its other adversaries from being able to achieve their own objectives through military attacks, Iranian state-affiliated media reported.

I’ll take things that the media made up for $500, Alex…

Going to use the bad boy.
But the sauces don't tell you what target would require a moab
fricking brilliant.

Maybe intentional and not a leak at all? Give some people something to think about?

Can you help me understand what this may mean other than bombing Iran? I don't follow.

So, why weren't we using these on Day 1?

I know I'm a broken record..............but the MOAB must be dropped from a cargo plane, not a bomber. AFAIK, you don't put a cargo plane over an area with good air defenses. Also, and more importantly, the MOAB is capable of destroying an area equivalent to nine city blocks, but considered ineffective against deeply buried, granite-fortified targets. Some say it would have a psychological effect on the enemy, but I don't see that either.

The walls are closing in on our Deep State Dramatis Personae. RSBN straight up told viewers that Trump was the Commander in Chief of the US Military during the illegitimate Biden term. Take a look at the investigations into Ilhan Omar and Jack Smith for the most recent examples.
Their illusionary power structure has been vaporized out from under them and the next step in the process of regaining our republic is when we the people stand up at the polls and exercise our revolution against their slanted system.

Who wants to tell him about Iran's defensive capabilities?

Maybe we’re considering using it for the psychological effect on the President.

It means we tell Iran we are going to massively destroy something in their country. We await a couple of days, see what they move to protect, and then go in with more precise, less vulnerable aircraft(ones equipped with stealth) and take out the defenses they put in place. Just my thoughts.

This is stupid. What strategic surface target do we have over there most effectively engaged by this big explosive sea can? How would we even get it over target? You cant strap it to the roof of a B2.
I highly doubt there is any real application for this thing over there right now, unless we have some that are about to age out and just want to blow them instead of dismantling them.

Vox,
I understand they are running a simulation in Athens on Saturday, of what destruction it will cause. I pray for my poor Auburn Tigers

Its the wrong tool for any job that needs doing over there right now. Its a humongous air burst bomb. It would be ineffective against any hardened or underground facility and collateral damage would be massive anywhere near any population. Theres no good way to get it there. Theres no target for it. Theres just no reason to use it.
It would be like you bringing a barret .50 bmg to go quail hunting. You brought a gun, and thats about the only part of the equation you got right. This is a bomb, and thats about where its similarities with weapons that are effective over there right now end.
