Big move if so.

She’s led the country for a long time and managed to hold together grand coalitions.

Germany may be headed for a new power struggle involving tribal politics.

Germany is totally dependent on Russia for gas.

She hasn't been popular for awhile. This poll was done back in 2018:

Bye, Merkel

Nothing will change, though. Germans aren't Germans anymore, and they'll be just as Eurocucked tomorrow.

Yes, German nationalism doesn’t exist.

Practically all Germans are Europhiles and globalists.

The problem is currently there is no anointed successor to Merkel. Merkel is like a damn cat, she has had nine lives. Her leadership is stale and represents status quo. Germany would be better off without her, but again there is no heir apparent at this time. I believe that she will step down this fall, the old East German communist looks tired and worn out.

Wait, what? Merkel is going to resign?

She announced in 2018 that she was going to step down as Chancellor at the end of the current term which is in September of this year. This is not news to anyone who has been paying attention.

She resigned as head of the CDU not as Chancellor. Laschet the Minister President of North Rhine Westphalia has taken her place and will most likely be the next Chancellor after receiving the nomination for the CDU/CSU today. Merkel will finish her term ,but she is no longer the head of the party.

She’s always looked frumpy and tired.

The most reaction I’ve ever seen from her was when she recoiled when W rubbed her shoulders.

I’m amazed that she lasted as long as she did but she managed to be above all else, benign and non threatening to conservatives and leftists alike. She is the definition of milquetoast.

And Merkel's not resigning, she just isn't running again this fall.

There's a ton of resignations going on over in Europe, but I haven't had the chance to research it. It would make more sense to me if Trump.was remaining in office.

It has nothing to do with Trump or Biden or the USA at all. It has to do with the way the EU has handled covid. The media here might make it seem like the EU has this thing handled way better than the USA but it is not true. Plus EU citizens do not really care if they are handling it better than the USA when they have to text the government for permission to leave their home as well as enduring other national lockdown measures that worse than anything we would ever consider doing. People were mad before but now that more and more studies are providing evidence that the benefit of lockdowns does not outweigh the costs of lockdowns people are getting madder by the day. A lot of the eurocrat weasels are resigning and running for cover because they do not want to be in power when the powder keg that is the anger of the EU citizens explodes.

The entire Dutch government just collapsed due to a major scandal. Their PM was one of Merkels biggest allies. The Italian government is on the verge of collapse. Dark days ahead.

I think, in general. Germans are tired of having to carry a cross of guilt because of their grandfathers.

Western Germany, at least, was made to be penitent over the atrocities of the Nazis. Less sure about East Germany. But that was about 80 years ago.

That may be reality, but the world reacts to perceptions of reality.

If Twitter says Germans are trending Nationalist, do you think the world will believe you, someone who who understands the political dynamics, or a loser in his basement Jack Dorsey decries has a legitimate geopolitical voice.

Truth. Their nationalist party AFD has had setbacks over the last few months. Instead of sustaining any gains that they made, they are regressing and having to revamp.

With the CDU picking Lachet the elections will be interesting this fall. He is not being well received and the AfD is going to gain many voters from the CDU/CSU coalition who are more conservative to the AfD. My wife is one of them.
