But why would they not be considered undocumented migrants? They were not members of any native tribes or citizens of any native nations. I know I’m asking you to do a thought exercise but I’m truly baffled at the mental gymnastics here. What did they do to not earn that label?

Fewer than 1/10 are fleeing political persecution. They are looking for a better life. Which is admirable and why we have a legal immigration process they can go through.

They are if they cross with employment visas, until those temporary visas are no longer deemed legally valid.
