If Trump “lit a fire” it was probably a very appropriate one. You can argue the wisdom of the covid lockdowns all you want (I was against them) but they were happening regardless of the president. And Trump was fairly good on lockdowns. He blundered in the beginning but then got it right.

Given the lockdowns, monetary expansion and covid checks were an absolute necessity; no respected economist believes otherwise. The question was, “How much?” Trump probably got it about right. We might have had some brief inflation, but that’s what you want to aim for - err on the side of too much because the alternative is very ugly, as Obama found out with his very slow recovery.

Our big problem came when Biden took over and wanted to cash in on the covid gravy train. He aimed for a $3 trillion stimulus bill, which fortunately was defeated when Sinema and Manchin balked. They eventually agreed to $1 trillion. That $1 trillion was on top of what was probably a prudent monetary policy by The Fed/Trump.

Let’s talk about the affordability of food.

You have the Ukraine war. Since 2022, fertilizer has skyrocketed and is sourced from that area. US farmers can’t eat that expense so it gets passed on to the consumer. Then you have the higher price of fuel because of the Iran war. Fuel and fertilizer are the highest inputs in farming.

Add those into the already inflated prices due to COVID and printing money and it’s a recipe for disaster. Charlie Kirk preached that the GOP needed to understand the young people’s concern or they will turn toward Mamdanism. We are unfortunately seeing that played out in real time.

Insurance and property taxes are the major arse-rapes for me. Supposedly State Harm is going to be issuing dividend checks. Great. I can buy an extra rotisserie chicken or two. Not expecting any relief from property taxes. For some reason, RINOcucks have a stranglehold on assessor elections.

I'm struggling with affordability, so I'm going to vote for the politicians running on the infinite tax and spend platform. Things will be so much better with progressives running the show. At least they pretend to hear me, and that is what matters the most.

You guys don't seem to understand that the status quo includes a secure border, fewer government employees, a military concerned with war instead of DEI, and lower taxes. I could go on, but this is already way too long. Too many people get fixated on a single issue and become oblivious to everything else.

It's just stupid to complain about affordability and then vote for the party that guarantees higher taxes on both corporations and individuals.

Did these people forget that corporations pass on taxes to the consumers? People are bitching about tariffs but are perfectly fine voting for the party telling them they are going to raise prices on everything through taxes while simultaneously telling them they are going to keep less of their paycheck.

"The Republican party isn't giving me an incredible candidate and isn't lowering prices fast enough, so I'm going to vote for the people who will continue to make things unaffordable while simultaneously destroying our country and culture" is one of the dumbest lines of thinking I've ever encountered.

For all the people complaining about affordability, what do you think is going to happen when democrats bring in another 20 million illegals and put them on welfare? Do you really think that's going to make goods cheaper?

Or have you just convinced yourself that the democrats won't implement the harmful policies they tell you they will and already have?

Why do people have so much trouble looking at the big picture?

"I can't afford food and gas, so I'm going to vote for democrats who will make everything even worse. That'll teach those republican politicians to not give me what I want."

I seriously can't comprehend this level of thinking. Choosing between the Republican party and the democrat party is easier than deciding what to eat for supper for anyone with even a basic ability to use logic.

This. It doesn't make sense, logically speaking. "I'm angry at the cost of everything. So instead of voting for the party that makes efforts to keep the economy churning, i'm going to vote for communists who tell me they will take more of my taxes, and who had higher inflation and cost of goods without having a war in Iran when they previously had control. That will surely turn out better.
