Field offices for a lot of fed agencies are already a ghost town, no fat left to trim and severely under staffed, and these are people who actually do work on the ground and never really left the office for covid.
But every GS-14+ sitting fat and happy in DC needs to be put on notice by kitchen sink Elon.

Those employees help drive the machine that runs the rest of the costs. It’s not about their salary. It’s about over reach first and the economics second.

DOGE isn't just about cutting employees... cutting unnecessary waste and improving efficiency. The jobs are easy to cut, but think about the dollars those jobs waste- both are unneeded. This is why your post SUCKS and was not necessary!

Every role within any government agency is an obstacle I have to overcome to accomplish my goals.
It's not about how much money they cost, it's about how much growth these roles delay.

If they reduce the size of government, then that should also reduce the number of bullshite programs. They are not mutually exclusive.
It is pretty clear that salaries aren't the big expenditure here though.

Problem with the civil service is there are too many civilians.

Only because the federal government spends so much. It's a lot of money. If you cut a check to one of the guys making the salary, you'd fire him instead. Very few employees for the feds do something you can't live without much less would notice if it was gone.

Federal employees overwhelmingly vote Democrat …. a self-serving and time honored practice in DC.
Return powers and monies back to the States …. closer to the constituents.
Congress long ago abdicated their Legislative responsibilities in favor of the K-street cowboys. Time to take those responsibilities back, and hold the abusers accountable.
Term limits will accelerate this process.

A lot of the other money is spent on Big Pharma and pointless wars. That’s being tackled also.
This is my big beef. We (American Taxpayers) are getting screwed three ways by the Pharma/Gov cabal.
Taxpayer money sent to Big Pharma for R&D.
FDA approves lightly vetted symptom covers with loads of side effects as "cures".
Big Pharma charges the American Taxpayer 5-10xs the amount for the "cures" as they do for the rest of the world.
Rinse and repeat to treat the side effects.... ad nauseum

Getting rid of useless offices including all the overhead that it takes to employ those people (office space, travel, security, health benefits, utilities) would cut more than just salaries. It also cuts useless and unneccessary spending like grants and studies.
Also, if you've ever known or worked for a government entity, their main goal is to spend every bit of budget money they have to ensure they don't get a cut to funding the following fiscal year. That means if they need to buy 100 vehicles that will get very little use, or replace all of the filing cabinets, etc., they'll do it. I'd be for giving some kind of percentage of budget savings as an added employee benefit perk to incentivize saving taxpayer money.

"Mass federal layoffs isn't going to solve everything on its own"
Posted on 11/15/24 at 8:20 am to LSU6262
The more federal government employees you fire the fewer projects get done thus saving you money on the big part of that graph.
If there are zero federal government employees there is no one to spend the money.
If there are zero federal government employees there is no one to spend the money.

OK so let's find those and keep them. Lets fire the other ones.
THIS. You want to address issues with Government waste and get rid of dead weight, address the REAL problem, the one that is difficult, and is not addressed by sexy tweets (such as eliminating Remote work). Have Vivek and Elon roll up their sleeves and delve into how they can cut the MOUNTAINS of red tape that make it damned near impossible to terminate government employees for poor performance.

Yes, a lot of federal employees need to be fired, but much more important is cutting whole programs.
Wait until they learn cutting whole programs (other than the military) won't really move our deficit-debt needle much

The people are the programs.
They are one and the same.
The government, at every level, is a jobs program.

I know most people like to hate on federal employees, but there are some talented people that need to be used in more efficient ways.
Keep the talented people, cut the rest. It's ok if it leaves agencies short staffed. Ya just go out and hire more talented people.
Problem solved!
But yes. The reduction needs to be MASSIVE.
