And this is why people like me grow up and leave Jackson. As long as these type people are elected to leadership positions there is no point in trying to live there and make it better. Every time Jackson makes one step forward something like this knocks it 10 steps back. Jackson is about 30 years behind the next closest metropolitan city with no signs of improvement. It has no draw for anyone age 22-35. Terrible public schools. Crime. No infrastructure. Why the hell would I want to live there when I could live in Atlanta, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville or Birmingham?

My uncle and his family are among that number. He's a relatively liberal type, but even he's starting to see the writing on the wall. Within the next four years, Jackson will become Detroit. Sad, but telling.
