A toddler who was injured in a shooting during a fight over a parking spot at an apartment complex on Sunday night in east Charlotte is expected to survive.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said 39-year-old James Raeford shot at a van Sunday night and hit a 3-year-old in the back with a bullet. The police report said the child was in the van with his father.

Raeford appeared before a judge in his first court appearance on Tuesday, Oct. 21, and a judge granted him bond. Raeford was given a $500,000 secured bond and will have to wear an electronic ankle monitor and cannot have contact with the prosecuting witness.

Judge sets bond for man accused of shooting toddler at apartment complex in east Charlotte

DA: Judge, are you sure he deserves a bond?

Judge: Everyone deserves a 20th chance to hurt someone! He's a victim of circumstances. It's not his fault. It's Whieypo's fault somehow!

quote:

City councilmember Malcolm Graham said this is just another tragic example of people resorting to violence to solve a simple conflict.

Graham said easy access to guns is a key part of the violence we’re seeing across the city.

Oh I see...it's the gun's fault!

I've found that access to violent apes is far easier than access to guns, and further that the danger in the latter is far more dependent on the former.

I wonder if it is time for state legislatures to step in and change how bonds are set.

Most have a variety of factors for the judge to consider that essentially makes it entirely discretionary for the individual judge.

Maybe it’s time to set some hard rules about number or arrests or types of crimes charged.

The political solution of “elect better judges” is too far removed from the problem in both time and scope. Wholesale change at the legislative level would go further and be quicker to address the problem.

I see more criminals walking around than guns.

Maybe that’s the problem.

Charlotte is a fricking cesspool. Too many bastards like that are freely walking around. As long as you are black, you can get a slap on the wrist for almost anything below 1st degree murder.

I’m currently in Charlotte NC, the quick trip I stopped at had an armored cop just standing behind the counter with the cashiers. Wasn’t sure if I felt safe or in danger.

This dude needs to be detained without bond, but…

“HE HAS JUST BEEN RELEASED FROM PRISON WITHOUT BOND!!!!!“
=/=
“Raeford was given a $500,000 secured bond”

Montana has the highest rate of gun ownership, but the lowest rate of firearm deaths.

For some reason, the guns don’t kill people there.
