They've already said if they lose the taxes from the MoL they will "re-think" their promise to pay legacy costs. And those are the legacy costs due from the incorporation of the new city, not the school district.
All I can say is I think SG be wrong there if we didn't pay the appropriate percentage of legacy costs.
On the other hand, BR would need to pay legacy costs based on what the Mall would pay to the SG FD legacy costs too.
Already Been Chewed?????

They were actual communites, not a dispersed band of far flung suburban neighborhoods. Baton Rougeans are still Baton Rougeans,
Please tell me you understand the ridiculous logical fallacy behind this statement. The status quo bodyguards for some reason want to be able to claim that "st George isn't a community. They are just a collection of neighborhoods." and at the same time preach "we're better together! You're trying to divide our town!"
These are contradictory. Do not use them again.

No they really aren't. When people say "WeAreBR" and things like that, they aren't specifically talking about the city limits. Personally I've always considered everything in the incorporated area as Baton Rouge and most others have as well. St. George was always a very small area that was a part of the larger BR.

I'd say that St. George residents can decide whether or not they are community enough to incorporate. They need the approval of people like yourself.

Same here.
But after this debate I learned a whole lot more as to how the City Parish consolidated govt. works and how tax money is dispersed.
It's apparent more taxes leave SG than they get back, but reality is I have no problem with that because I've been lucky and more taxes leave my house than I personally get in services and that's fine by me to a reasonable point.
And honestly, the tax situation in EBR has not passed the point of reason as far how it is recognized and used.
The key to the entire situation is the schools. Give me an ISD, and I vote against the city. But the schools are so important, I'd take the new city to get new schools.
some might not feel like I do, and that's fine; but in plain English that's how I feel.

quote:I wonder what the effect of losing over 5,000 "elite" magnet students would be on the EBRPSS? It probably wouldn't help their NAEP ratings.
As we've previously learned, there are over 5,000 "elite" magnet students from the St George area now attending EBR schools outside the SG area. Those students would be forced to leave their current schools and attend SG schools if a new SG ISD was established. The only problem is the current capacity of the existing SG schools is 5,000, which accommodates the current students easily but in now way could absorb overnight over 5,000 additional "elite" students from the EBR "elite" magnet program. No worries, though, Lionel Rainey, III says no new school taxes would be needed for a new SG ISD.
Because the EBRPSS has deliberately kept the number of schools in the St. George area below the population and bussed those kids to schools inside incorporated Baton Rouge the solution is to avoid the creation of a St. George School District. That makes a hell of a lot of sense. It's not like the EBRPSS and a new St. George School District couldn't work out an exchange arrangement beneficial to both bodies and the "elite" magnet students. With such an arrangement the capacity issue in the St. George District could be resolved with less disruption. All that is necessary is to negotiate the proper cost per student.

Please try and keep up or just go away. I have said from day 1 they have the right to incorporate.

There is not a case in the history of the world where one city just wrote a check to another city out of the goodness of their heart.
Lionel Rainey's lie about St George being paying the joint BR/SG debts was to garner support to pitch his scheme of "Saving Baton Rouge".
The St. George propaganda machine can say whatever they want, because they are not held accountable, nor will they ever be.
Norman Browning will be mayor of his own city he created.
Rainey and Hoffpauir are going to get wealthy off of the government contracts issued to start and plan the city.
Yates may just be a pawn, but he stands to gain a nice raise as fire chief of a bigger department.

Oh and this from the newest St. George cheerleader:

And increasingly, St. George supporters are rallying around council member Ryan Heck. He doesn’t make speeches, but he has been posting lengthy diatribes against the city-parish administration on Facebook. When Amoroso praised Heck at Tuesday night’s St. George meeting, Heck got applause and a standing ovation from some in the crowd.
Those comments haven’t come without controversy, though. On the St. George Facebook page Tuesday, he told a poster he would “whip your arse.”
The poster, Brandon Corley, said Heck was “using kids to justify segregation/white flight.”
Heck told Corley to “GFY” (you can guess what that acronym stands for), and said: “You insinuate that I’m a racist, you better be prepared to back up that claim, or meet me somewhere so I can whip your arse.”
Some commenters cheered Heck on, one saying “way to go Ryan,” while another said he was a “disgrace to your position showing such immaturity.” A post on the social media site Reddit linked to the conversation with the title “BR councilman Ryan Heck threatens citizen via facebook.”
Corley’s response? “Sure Ryan. Me v You. I win you step down from council?”

Sure sounds like you don't know very much about any of this. Doesn't sound like Norman a bit. Also, saying you'll make good on some legacy costs can't truly be considered a lie until it's come to pass (or not pass, in this case). At least when the Russian accuses, he is words like "unlikely" and "misleading."
He's a much better troll than you are.

I don't think many adult men would have difficulty kicking Ryan Heck's fat arse....
ETA: Does anyone know if Ryan Heck is a descendant of Wallace Heck, the concrete company owner who went to jail for bilking the parish in an illegal price fixing scheme with Ted Dunham?

"propaganda machine?" seriously? It really is just a group of people that have gotten shut down at every turn trying to fix the dumpsterfire of our public schools. The is no machine. It's a group of parents, teachers, engineers and a firefighter and a whole bunch of signatures. There isn't a machine, like an entire group of worthless city employees that can be ordered by Kip or Delgado to dig up dirt or fudge numbers.
You will never win the argument that Norman, Yates, and even Bodi are dirty politicians when compared to the likes of Kip, Delgado, any of the hyphenated women on the metro council, pat Smith, and the Union thugs. Good luck.

The anti SG is going to the extremes to paint the SG crowd in a bad light.
In one breath they label them as rank amateurs only in the next breath the tell us they have a propaganda machine and that they are slick money grubbers out to get power.
We are seeing the leftist tactics of name calling to the extreme here folks. They feel if they post it enough times it will magically become fact.
Watch 'em now.

Jesus.Drop this line and just be honest. Everytime I ask SG supporters who use this line if they participate in School Board meetings, or if they participate in fundraisers, or the school events, or if they even know who their school board is, they balk or change directions.
It's not about the schools. It never was. Just be honest.
