or if they even know who their school board is

It's not about the schools. It never was.
I believe it was Russian who started the thread months ago that linked the advocate article about Norman browning. Russian then said something to the effect of "he actually seems like a guy that has worked hard to improve the schools. The parish could use more people like him."
I was impressed with Russian's honesty that Sunday.

So, unlike all the other people who have spouted this line, Russian told the truth.
Obviously he is keeping up with what's going on in the schools and school board.

Yea Russian was the first and only one here to warn us of the impending sales tax increase to 11%.
Then he let us all know about the 38 million dollars in parish taxes the Mall pays each year with link and everything.
Then he was the first to tell us that Bodi White withdrew his bill to help get SG started .
I have to admit Russian has been on top of things and he has gone to great lengths to uncover the truth and bring it here .

Not a one of these things has anything to do with the schools and school board activities.
Good try though.

Don't be too hard on him, mag. He's proven he can't read and comprehend what he's reading. Or remember it after 24 hours have passed.

You're right.
They have everything to do with Russian's complete lack of credibility, and amazing ability to remain an arrogant prick while making wrong statements.

This is another retarded argument by the better together folks.
I've heard the same folks that say "if the St George proponents would just spend as much effort fixing the schools as they do creating a city it would be fixed!"
Sounds like a cute "Gotcha" until you realize they don't want to permit ANY change to the school system, no matter how minor. They flip their wig when Bodi works with BRAC on some stupid bill that incrementally changes the role of principals.
To the best of my knowledge, they just want us to spend every waking moment parenting other people's kids, and not touching the job of a single invaluable school board member.

Looks like you brought over a playmate from the mayor 's office .
Looks like another magnet elite too. You guys love to hang together. Same style too. Both BRHS clones ?

What?
I know a lot of people with kids in EBR schools who attend board meetings. Have one friend who went in front of the legislature and pitched her support for the principals to have more control over funds and their schools and how the funds are spent for the schools, eliminating some of the bureaucracy.
They also support the schools by going to plays and events so that they are recognizable and their kids have a better shot at getting into the magnet programs and such.
What have you done?

Actually, I attended Zachary while it was still in EBRPSS.
I know what that transition was like, and what the community did for the schools BEFORE they were given their own district. They attended events, donated money for supplies, participated in fundraisers. Whether their kid was in the school or not. They volunteered for different school events.
Hell, the civic clubs in Zachary did a lot for the schools. It was a real community effort.
SG and its proponents have done very little of this. They do not really care about the community outside of their home. They even admit that they don't participate.
They think slapping a new name on the School Board will magically change everything for the better.
But as I've said: it's not about the schools. Just be honest.

And please explain what this is. Are you really hating on the smart kids?
Posted on 5/7/14 at 8:46 pm to magildachunks
My kid just got out of diapers. One step at a time. I have tutored kids before and taught a small group an hour a week for about four years now (free of charge), since you asked. Does that count?
To specify, though, the representative for Bitter Together was on the news last night with the aforementioned "Gotcha" line. Same chick that was vehemently opposed to any slight change to a single EBRPSS position. They truly worship the status quo.

Look at it this way too .
All these elitist here tell us that we really know nothing and they know it all because they never miss a school board meeting . They profess to be involved and knowledgeable about what is going on in the schools. Their best friends with their board member and probably talk with them twice a week too.
But just look how bad things are. What does that say about the job they are doing as watchdogs ? What kind of influence do they have? Are they really doing any good or are they just there to protect their magnet schools and gifted programs?
Think about it , as long as their kids get to BRHS and their precious gifted and magnet programs are maintained , who cares if a few inner city schools get taken over by the state , or if an administrator helps fix grades, or if all the schools have quality teachers?
If I were going to all these school board meetings and if I were going to volunteer at school to help, I'd like to see the system I was in flourish and not rot from the top down.
But we are the unclean, the unwashed, the ones who really don't know anything and they do. We just need to STFU and keep the status quo.

I didn't go to the magnet school indoctrination with you guys and drink the Kool Aid.

My aforementioned friend's kid is in Pre-K. She already knows the administrators of the middle magnet and BRHS. She is actively involved in the schools, and doesn't work at any. Again, she is involved because she wants the best for her kid. She's looking to the future.

That's good. I think more people should help as much as they can.

It's not really being active in the schools. But admirable.

And others don't. And are actively trying to get those people out. But breaking away is not the answer. A better Baton Rouge helps all surrounding areas and parishes.
