I don't know why this was the funniest part of the voicemail for me.

Sounds like LSU should "do the right thing" and get rid of this arse hat.

There is no reason to believe given the history of LSU since JBE took office that this guy will be fired.

They lit up Tiger Stadium in Floyd's high school colors, created a race dividing athletic organization just for black students, removed the name of a large contributor and war hero from the library because his racial views in the sixties and put BLM supporting things on jerseys and uniforms there for a while.

LSU is woke.

Still I like to pull for the baseball team and enjoyed my trip to Omaha.

The DOJ is arresting people for far less in connection with the January 6 intrusion into the capitol.

So state employees have to forego all opinions on matters of public concern?
Do state employees have to yell like an insane person and wish death upon politicians they have a difference of opinion with? Are they incapable of acting in a remotely civilized manner when disagreeing with someone’s position?

If a right wing LSU professor (if one even exists) left a similarly unhinged rant and death wishes on the voicemail of a legislator that voted against overriding JBE’s veto of the constitutional carry bill last year, they’d already be unemployed and rightly so

I think you can perhaps disregard any comments from the last few days, but if you look back at the older posts he's been a POS for a long time

He can say whatever he wants. They only protection he has is the ability to say it. I can walk into my company's owners office and tell him to frick off. I have to suffer the consequences of that action. Most employers have an employee handbook\manual that has some sort of language that employee actions can't harm the company.

Probably when he threatened physical violence.

BTW, about 90% of the responses to your post indicate a complete lack of understanding of the 1st Amendment. For example, several seem to think it prevents state action ONLY in the form of criminal prosecution. JFC.

Hank, as a libertarian, are you for or against the free speech exceptions? I was just looking them up, and there are more exceptions than I realized.

Ideologically, I would oppose them all. Pragmatically, if the state is also an employer, you have a hybrid situation, and an employer often DOES need to limit the actions of an employee to protect the employer. Some limits on state employees are thus reasonable … an unfortunate necessity.

Don’t punish yourself. Most people think the protections are broader than they actually are.

Categories of speech that are given lesser or no protection by the First Amendment (and therefore may be restricted) include obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, and commercial speech such as advertising. Defamation that causes harm to reputation is a tort and also an exception to free speech.

I guess my point is that if there are this many exceptions to free speech, how much free speech protection do we actually have? Seems like it rings rather hollow in light of these Supreme Court rulings.
