You are correct. The USA has a huge underground storage facility just west of Hobbs NM. They put that stuff pretty far down.

Well, water is an excellent shielding material for radioactive material. Adding salt to that water makes it better. Depending how deep undergroind they go, there is not much, if any concern of it getting out. The Gulf coast isn't like the California coast where fault lines open underground pockets to the water column.
If we want dependable, clean energy, we have to put the waste somewhere. Deep under the sea floor is probably the best option.

Am I also correct in thinking that nuclear waste never expires and never goes bad. And that we could reuse it for energy again. I believe Europe uses a lot of molten salt reactors that use nuclear waste.
