Louisiana is a Socialist State with an LSU Bumper Sticker. Change My Mind.

Normally one would never make such a comparison, but when you get past the compensatory exterior of pickup trucks, duck huntin’, country music, and football, you’ll find a socialist state similar to France.
Inside, it’s full of unions and billion-dollar chemical plants living on permanent tax exemptions while our roads look like a war zone. The state literally rigs the market for Big Oil, pays for their infrastructure, and calls it 'free enterprise' while the working man gets the bill.
LA has a state budget that is 45% funded by Washington DC. We hate federal overreach until it's time to cash the disaster relief checks, fund Medicaid, or rebuild a bridge. Louisiana is basically a federally subsidized welfare state with a LSU bumper sticker.
Crony politicians have been running a centrally planned economy since Hueyp Long. Every major industry is protected by state-mandated monopolies, backroom handouts, and regulatory capture that would make a Soviet bureaucrat blush.
Do we warn France before it’s too late and they become one of us?

Been that way since Long. He convinced the voters they could get shite with other people's money.

Louisiana is more like the continent of Africa. A bunch of family tribes that control and keep the state right where it is and hire their own. Republican, Democrat, socialist, gay, don’t matter. Irrelevant, just a t shirt color.
Fact. Not opinion.

I ran it thru Grok and this is accurate.
Louisiana ranks #1 nationally in this category. That's not a category a state wants to be #1 in.
Rank State Federal Share
1 Louisiana 50.7–51%
2 Alaska ~48.8–49%
3 Arizona ~46.4–46%
4–6 Kentucky
Mississippi
Montana ~44%
— National average ~34–35%

That's a bit like comparing someone severely retarded to someone who got a 80/100 on a math test because neither got a 100.
No one is taking shitty, home-made rafts in order to sneak out of the state. While there has been a lot of out-migration from the state in general over the years, the Baton Rouge metro area has seen consistent growth for at least the last 26 years, adding nearly 200k more people since 2000.
Are there reforms which need to be made? Absolutely, but then that's true of every large, urban area (the larger, the more likely more reforms are needed). But to even casually flirt with calling it a socialist state is far too much of a stretch.

If welfare was a state they’d call it Louisiana

Socially conservative (outside of gambling, smoking, public intoxication, etc), fiscally socialist.

IDK for fact, but I wonder if LA's budget could cover necessary road upkeep if it wasn't spent elsewhere? IOW, it's not a shortage of money; it's a misallocation to in effect "buy" votes.

Louisiana votes mostly red and our taxes are middling - neither high nor low. That does not scream socialism.

You think some tax exemptions for big manufacturers are socialism? Not bilking them for as much taxes as possible, while they still also pay a shite ton of taxes, and create high wage jobs for citizens, is “socialism?”
Okay.
Okay.

Our flag is very socialistic
I actually can’t believe Little Landry hasn’t had it changed

Louisiana’s overall tax rate is low, around 9%, but we have the highest sales tax in the country.

Didn’t Baton Rouge get a big influx of NOLA people after Katrina? I believe that state had net negative migration.

Louisiana is still trying to overcome the devestating effects of decades of corruption by the democrats. Especially the corruption orchestrated by the democrat govenor Edwin W. Edwards (aka Fast Eddy).
The stories of cringing corruption from the EWE years still haunt this state.
I already shared one story in which Fast Eddy's corruption cost Louisiana at least one Auto Assembly Plant. An Auto Assembly Plant that would have brought hundreds of good paying jobs to Louisianians. Pure blatant, in your face, corruption.
But there were other heartbreaking stories. Like the elderly wife in Lake Charles who gambled their home away at the Casino. She lost everything and rather than tell her husband what she had done - when he came home from his humble job she killed him, then committed suicide. Awful.
One friend (a businessman) living in the Lake Charles area told me that a rash of 14 small business failures followed the introduction of Casino gambling in Lake Charles. The business owners simply gambled away their businesses.
But hope always springs eternal. Louisiana has elected a good Republican governor in Jeff Landry and in an incredible move Elon Musk is building a SpaceX Space City in Vermilion Parish. Finally, Louisiana is clawing her way out of decades of democrat corruption. Republican governor Mike Foster must be smiling down from heaven right now.
But all this hope of future prosperity is threatened by the possibility the American electorate will let these crooked corrupt mafia democrats back in power.
President Trump, Jeff Landry and Elon Musk are right about.......everything.
Elections have consequences.
