In your opinion, what are some measures we should be pushing for our elected officials to enact, withdraw, or reform in Louisiana?

Elections
Constitutional Carry
Land ownership
food sources
spending
conservation
education
preparation for a recession or depression?

The people have spoken and there is supermajority of Republican offices held.

What should we be contacting our representatives to act on?

Now is the time to focus on the local issues that we can have a voice in, not trying to capture the center (Wash DC).

Constitutional Carry (but I have a CCP)

Water Access for fisherman, landowners are blocking of canals (We are the only state that allows this).

Both of those and I’d add more restrictions for pogey boats operating close to our shore line and limit their catch quota. No other state allows them to come nearly as close to shore as LA and some states ban that type of fishing entirely

Restoring law and order in the cities. To include legislation to address rogue DAs and mayors if necessary.

1. Crime
2. Political corruption

You can’t have a functioning society without having these two things under control.

These things have direct impacts on jobs, housing prices, tax receipts and virtually every other aspect of the economy.

Raise standards for college admission (if there are any) and increase access to trade schools. Plumbers make a lot more money than people with a social work degree from U.N.O.

Start out by getting rid of Louisiana's Constitutional Amendment #1.

That would go a long way in getting the La state budget back in line.

Break up the La teachers union.

Raise the GPA average to get TOPS to a 3.0

Get rid of the La state income tax.

Rip up the tax code and start all over again. Inventory tax...

Major tort reform. Drive down any Interstate few miles in La and there are at least 5 ambulance chasers on billboards. That should tell you something.

Auto insurance reform. I don't have the exact numbers but Miss auto insurance rates are a lot lower than ours(Louisiana).
Start cracking down on uninsured drivers.

There are other things they can do. If southern states like GA, TN, TX can prosper, why can't Louisiana?

No one should be allowed to graduate 4th grade without being fully literate.

The legislature needs to reign in judge’s available discretion with regards to setting bail. This will help to eliminate the catch and release revolving door for criminals in major cities.

The entire tax system needs to be overhauled starting with the inventory tax ponzy scheme.

The state government needs to devolve more authority back to local governments.

The governor’s line item veto needs to go.

No funds from fines, tickets, or the sale of seized assets should go to fund law enforcement activities. Law enforcement should only be funded by dedicated property tax millages or specific sales taxes.

Raise the qualifying act scores for TOPS by a couple points.

The path to Louisiana prosperity is very simple: FIX THE ECONOMY BY LOWERING TAXES

-Louisiana has the highest (tied with Tennessee) combined state and local sales tax rate in the country.

-We also have the 15th highest corporate tax rate in the country.

-29 states have lower individual income tax rate than Louisiana.

-Louisiana ranks near the middle of all states for effective property taxes.

In short, we do not have any tax advantage to other states and we are one of the highest combined tax states in the nation. The economy here is one of the worst in the country, and has been for a long time before covid and now inflation. We have population and businesses fleeing and they have been leaving for over a decade, a longer span of population decrease than any other state. Most states are growing, Louisiana is one of the few that hasn't grown in a very long time.

What are the barriers to accessing trade schools currently? As far as I know, one only needs a high school education and a drivers license to join.

I agree. I went to trade school, one of my kids went to trade school, the other two are pursuing STEM degrees.

We had a talk years ago about college and what I would support financially. If I didn't believe it was a degree that had a marketable skill in and out of Louisiana, I wasn't paying more than $1,000 to get them going.

Civil law reform

we should insert a mandatory arbitration requirement in all civil matters before cases can be heard in district court and make it loser pay---plaintiffs and defendants would be better served

voucher school funding---all state education funds should go with the students instead of going through government bureaucrats on school boards---if public schools want to maintain their funding they will do what it takes to attract students

Did the landowners dig the canals on their own land?

If yes, then you have no right to it.

They don't exist in a lot of places. And many HS's no longer have split senior years. IE, you can opt to attend HS for 1/2 day and nearby trade school half a day...so you can go directly to the job at 18.
It will require money directed at trade schools.

Loser pays in the car wreck context would only drive rates higher. If there is a clear case of liability, the Defense “loses” most of the time and insurance companies would be paying the Attorney’s fees and costs in addition to a verdict.

Constitutional carry and elections without voting machines or illegal activity will change so much.

Friggers been cheating along time.

IDK about the rest of the state but up here in NELA, there ONE Vo-Tech school(off I-20 near Calhoun) and its pretty sad.

Then there is Delta Community in Monroe but from what I have seen, its sub-par.

Diesel mechanics are in high demand and a good diesel tech can make bank.

Residential and industrial electricians, plumbers, carpenters, truck drivers(CDL),even trades like accounting...can do very well.

The four year college system is for the most part, useless and nearly obsolete for most. The exception would be the medical fields and a few other fields.
