Chicago gun violence: Mayor Lori Lightfoot hoping to curb bloodshed by suing gangs
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is expected to announce an effort to sue local gangs as a way to curb rampant gun violence, according to a local affiliate report.
The Democratic mayor is expected to announce a plan that would allow city attorneys to take legal action against gang affiliated offenders, FOX 32 Chicago reported. A spokesperson for Lightfoot’s office would not comment on Monday, other than to say more details would be available on Tuesday.
"As a city we are using every tool to push back against the gangs that are leaving a trail of blood, death and misery in their wake," Lightfoot said, according to the report. If successful in their legal efforts, the city could thwart gangs’ activities by seizing property, such as weapons, money and vehicles.

These people are truly stupid… and liberals say they are the smart ones. Might as well have them register their guns as well….
Morons.

Gangs are just an idea.

Why don't we lock the gangs up?

I am sure they will be happy to accept default judgements

The fact that these idiots get elected is mind boggling.
Keep in mind, when you vote dem they tell you that they want to help the black community and make it better - meanwhile, well lets try to sue the gangs.

They always quote their college grads. Always talk down to Conservatives. I always laugh, yeah you graduated and have a degree that will NEVER pay you a dime, but hey, you got them.
And personally, i don't like to brag, but i have 20 degrees, from the reputable Sally Struthers Diploma making college.

That would be the smart plan.
What she is discussing has either been proposed or done elsewhere, with the idea being that you identify the gang and its members then them being within X distance from each other is a crime and allows them to be locked up.
Not sure if it has been done in practice but it was depicted as a tactic on The Shield while it was on the air. The idea was to keep gangs from operating effectively through dispersing their members.

"We have put a lien on your property and are garnishing your wages. From now on, the buyers in your drug deals are to give US the money when you deliver the drugs to them until your judgement is paid in full"

They couldn't do this before? So basically her plan is to allow the Police and Lawyers to actually do their job?

Is this for real? You can't prosecute them, but you want to file a lawsuit? Where do they even serve the papers?
If you know who is responsible for violent crime and where to find them, go make an arrest.

Still isn’t as effective as actually doing that IMHO.
It basically turns the gangs into a new income source rather than put them behind bars.

aren't there already anti-crime laws on the books?
Posted on 9/21/21 at 8:40 am to Jack Carter
Having gangs kill the lawyers serving them...is that really a bad thing?
Posted on 9/21/21 at 8:41 am to Jack Carter
Brilliant idea. Why didn’t anyone think of that before?
Take the criminals to court and make them follow the law

A single, well placed shot is even more effective, cheaper, and proficient.

First the city will have to prove each individual is a member of a specific gang, THEN they'll try to go after their property.
It's not like they couldn't already RICO them now and seize everything through CAF.
