So all states divide their electoral by the percentage each party gets, like Maine does now. That makes turnout more meaningful and each person voting knows his vote matters.
I’d rather have a percentage of California, Illinois , New York and other than nothing.

Thankfully, our Founding Fathers employed ACTUAL logic in deciding this ever-so-important issue!

Get rid of the winner take all laws. You won't even need a constitutional amendment.

If you want to send a damn message every vote counts . I don’t give a damn where you live . Vote and send the message loud and clear .

There are unique issues that affect people from each state. Without the electoral college, only urban issues would be addressed, since the majority of people live in urban centers.
The electoral college ensures that even the smaller states have issues that are addressed.
BTW for those who might say "but some states will always vote the same" -- in the past 60 years every single state in the union has voted both Democratic and Republican in one election or another

It’s disproportionate due to every state getting 2 senators.

It is one person one vote . That is how a state gathers figures and determine who the state votes for and sends that vote in . As different states get more electoral votes than others because of their population size those states carry an advantage over the smaller ones . You could argue why don’t the smaller states don’t get equal representation as the larger ones with that one vote theory you hold . Then they would never be another demrat President

it seems like you have a rather elementary understanding of how a republic works.
where do you live?

I know the general vote usually goes to democrats so most on this board won’t like this.
quote:And getting rid of the electoral college will somehow fix that? Dafukouttahere.
But I honestly think some of that is people that live in certain states don’t vote bc they know the outcome anyway. Unless you live in 1 of about 7 states, your presidential vote doesn’t mean anything.
quote:Yeah, so we can live in a system where Los Angeles and New York City decides who wins every election. Brilliant!
But in a national election, it should be one person=one vote, regardless of what state you live in, who the president is affects us all equally.

Bc every person voting carries the same weight, if you think a vote in Louisiana and a vote in Ohio are equal, idk what to tell you.

I know states rights have been shite on for a century+ but this and the senate are one of the last remaining state powers in our REPUBLIC.

did you know there are two houses in congress?

quote:our nation would not exist without the electoral college. It was a check for small states to keep large population centers from swallowing them up. Without this concession, the smaller states in the 13 colonies don’t agree, and our nation potentially looks radically different

The electoral college is not some throw in to the constitution. It’s a foundation protection for small states against cities and applies the same today as it did 250 years ago. If you want to remove this brilliance, it’ll require a constitutional amendment

Trump won 2800 counties out of 3100 total in 2016 but lost the national popular vote. Why would you want 10% of the population centers decide a national election?
Posted on 10/21/20 at 8:11 pm to sabes que
Because Ohio's vote carries a little more power than Louisiana, you'd weaken the voting power of BOTH states to near zero. If you think that's a good idea, idk what to tell you either.

quote:Good grief. That's a feature not a bug. With the far, far, greater urbanization we have today compared to the founding, we need higher equal representation component in our government, not less.
