As part of the OBBB legislation signed last year, a number of changes were added to SNAP

1) work requirements for non disabled
2) increased verification of eligibility
3) penalizing states with elevated fraud levels

Since then, SNAP enrollment is down more than 4 million nationally. The work requirement is apparently resulting in people getting jobs and reaching an income level where they no longer qualify. Child enrollment is falling too as the parents get jobs or the more robust verification process shows they were never supposed to be getting benefits to begin with.

Louisiana had the second steepest drop in America, with enrollment falling 22%.

The framing in this article is insane. They are acting like it’s a bad thing!

Am I wrong in thinking a 22% drop in SNAP enrollment in a state is a good thing? It means either people’s income is rising or there is a crack down on ineligible users getting the benefits

This is a great thing, and is exactly what I voted for.

They are saying that the 770,000 kids no longer receiving it are necessarily those "most in need." How could they know that? Not everyone on it really needed it. But...

This bolded part makes me suspect the numbers are seriously inflated.

If a kid is starving they are being abused and need to be taken away. If an adult is starving its on their own volition

Liberals believe part of the job of government is to provide ever-increasing services, with their mythical endgame being everyone being "equal" because everything in life is provided by the government (the derail into how that can't work in reality is for some other thread).

This means they look at the lowering use of such a program as the movement away from their lazy eutopia. Government also looks at it this way as many of their welfare programs look at something like lower enrollment as a negative with things like "lack of reach" instead of lower demand.

You could supply free basic food to the entire country, and the same people would still be in the same situation. They can't take care of themselves, even with a little help.

Maybe food prices are increasing to make up for the lost revenue related to SNAP enrollment falling.

There's a lot of people who were on SNAP that didn't belong on it. Couples would stay unmarried so that the lower income parent could qualify for SNAP and Medicaid benefits that they wouldn't have been eligible for if the government was looking at the combined household income with the higher income earning parent included.

Saw a similar story on a Knoxville tv station website. They talk about hunger like it's an epidemic in America despite the real obesity epidemic.

It’s a bad thing for them because their voter base is those dependent on daddy government.

Independent voters who work for a living and make their own way in the world tend to not vote for the commies that want to take and give away their wages.

I rarely shop in store these days except for the occasional quick run for a few items. Over the last few months, the stores have calmed down is the best way I can describe the change.

I'd suspect we would have the bodies of thousands of dead starved children in the streets, right?

Well that's because she's a moron. The money to fund welfare is actually taken out of the economy at basically gunpoint. If people paid less taxes that would buy more stuff.

The people receiving the welfare also spend it but the cost to administer the programs eat into what actually gets spent versus collected.

I don't know, maybe there are hungry kids, but what I do know is that it's not mine or the governments problem. They were born to consenting adults and it is their responsibility to figure it out like responsible people do. Unable to provide should equal unable to breed.

I had a boss once that did that. They got government subsidized housing and SNAP because he didn't marry his baby mama that he lived with. Told me that he would have married her if it wasn't for that.

The objective should be to have less people reliant on the government but for democrats, it’s the opposite

They want and need dependence.

It’s perverse and obvious yet people ignore it and still vote for them because they feel entitled
