Tomahawks are well past their prime. I have no doubt that something better and much cheaper is needed.
They are a bit dated, yes, but there isn't really a match for them in terms of distance and payload. The French have their own version of it (I'd have to look it up) but there isn't really an equivalent for the simple reason that there hasn't been a need for one.
It's the Ukrainians with their dirt-cheap Flamingo's and Neptune's that are going to fill that need, much to many people on the board's chagrin.

We don’t use Starlink for our responses inside Russia. We use Starlink to intercept jet-powered “shaheds” that attack our civilians and kill families.
Starlink wasn’t turned off – its speed was reduced. And when the speed was reduced, we were unable to intercept a certain number of jet-powered “shaheds.” We couldn’t use a tool that helps protect people. That’s very painful and frustrating.
We also use Starlink for mid-range strikes against enemy military targets in our temporarily occupied territories. We couldn’t do that when the restrictions were in place. And third, what matters most is people. Our warriors, who spend weeks and months on the front line, receive food and water delivered by drones using Starlink.
Has the speed been fully restored to what it was before? No. Is it being restored now? Yes.

You obviously know nothing about Tomahawks then. They have been consistently updated to keep up with technology advances. There’s a reason Ukraine wants them and Germany has so many of them on order. The Flamingo that Ukraine made in such quick time is ok for the speed it was produced but as far as quality comparing it with a Tomahawk would be like comparing an old Nokia flip phone from 1999 with an iPhone. Storm Shadows are great cruise missiles for what they do but Britain can’t make them in large numbers as their entire military industry has unfortunately become a joke and it will take a long time for Ukraine to be set up to produce them. Just look at their navy, once the greatest on Earth barely has more than a handful of ships able to sail at a given time.
I have and still am a supporter of Ukraine and I hope they can find an end to this war but anyone thinking they have any hope of getting back their territory that Russia has illegally invaded and taken is just not being honest with themselves. A deal needs to be made but Zelensky and Putin both want things that will never happen. Russia will never get all of Ukraine and Ukraine will never get Crimea or the Donbas back, they just don’t have the men and machines to do it. Russia completely emptied all their long term storage of armored vehicles and artillery pieces over the last 4 years with most of them being destroyed by Ukrainian drones and artillery. Now, however, if you look at those same storage sites Russia has filled them up again with new T-90M and refurbished T-72B3M tanks as well as new self propelled artillery pieces. Ukraine cannot keep up with their ability to produce military equipment or their endless reserves of cannon fodder soldiers. If Putin will really make a deal to stop this war if Ukraine gives the last 11% of the Donbas that they hold over then Zelenskyy should take that deal to stop the killing. I’ll get downvoted by the people that blindly think Ukraine can still win this war or treat it like it’s a video game and not a real war where people are dying by the thousands. It’s time. Make a deal and then rebuild Ukraine with what’s left because they have a great future economically with their defense sector producing some of the best drones on the planet. I hate that I’m even saying this but it’s just the honest truth. Neither side is getting what they truly want but that’s also usually the sign of a good deal when neither side is completely happy.

Ukraine is successfully hurting ghd Russian economy while Russia is hurting Ukraine's. It’s war, why let up when your opponent is not? To placate Trump?
That seems reasonable except Trump isn’t being reasonable. Trump is siding with Putin now.

I downvoted you because of your overly simplified solution.
Unless there is a DMZ or some kind of other designated defense line put in place with Western guarantees, Ukraine can’t make a deal because they know Russia will edit until they are ready and attack again.
It’s way more complicated than just stopping things and letting Russia keep what they have.

A deal is not possible until one or both are not leading their countries.

1.Russia took over Crimea and sent regulars into the Donbas long before anyone knew who Zelensky was.
2. The West did little as a response so Putin waited and saw how weak Biden and the West were he initiated his special operation not because of Zelenskyy, but because he wanted Ukraine back.
3. Russian propagandists have made Zelensky the bad guy. If George Washington were Ukraine’s President, Putin would have done the same thing.
4. The sad news is Trump seems to have taken the bait, hook, line and sinker.
1. Yep.
2. Crimea was invaded during Obama's term... and Putin knew he could pull it off because Obama needed his cooperation for his Iran nuclear deal... but he would've done it at some point that year no matter who was in the White House. His method of doing it, and then in the Donbas - as I'm sure you know - was to sneak in Russian troops who were not in uniform, so it was a "local uprising." "And it's so smart...because now he gets to go in and be a peacekeeper!" as Trump said, later.
3. Yep... Putin wants to decide who leads Ukraine... and you're not bothered that Trump wants to decide who runs countries in Central and South America in a similar fashion?
4. Trump didn't take the bait... he went into office wanting to help Putin. He visited Moscow in 1987 and strangely came back with a hatred of NATO and started his "they're ripping us off!" campaign, while the Cold War was still going on... something is just not right about his deference to Putin. At the very least, he's monetarily indebted since his businesses were funded by Russian money - which his sons bragged about - when he was toxic to US lenders.

You are 100% right and I meant to say that this type of deal where Ukraine gives up the last 11% of the Donbas would also require security guarantees from the west. I just don’t see the need for thousands more to die over a piece of land that is already destroyed completely. Besides, most of Luhansk is Russian supporters anyway so if there can be security guarantees I would trade the rest of the Donbas in a heartbeat. Ukraine is still very large and they can rebuild what’s left and still have a great country with a strong economy. Putin wants a way out but he has to have something that he can claim victory to his own idiotic people. I’m just sick of the dying and sick of this war. If the European countries can’t come together to form a solid security deal for Ukraine then this war will never end. Europe has ridden the U.S.’ coattails for so long, it’s time they take control of their own continent without needing our military to hold their hands.

Putin is not going to let the West provide security. He won’t let Ukraine in the EU or NATO.
He (Putin) is the hold up, but Trump is trying to force Zelenskyy to settle without guarantees of safety.
JMHO

And that’s the big issue.
And Ukraine would be stupid to sign a deal that doesn’t include this.

Putin will not make a deal... and there's nothing anybody can do to force him to make one. This war goes on until somebody takes him out. Nobody in Russia seems up to the task... so it will go on.

His excuse about Ukraine as a NATO member being a direct threat to Russia has now been exposed as the lie it is to the entire world. And as usual with the Master Strategist, what the Russians will have on their border after this war is over will be far worse than NATO. NATO wouldn't be interested in pay back for the next twenty years...

A very interesting story about a Russian soldier working for the Ukrainians.
WSJ
quote:
Later that day, he shared a confirmed tally with the Ukrainians: 68 killed and 60 wounded. Among the dead were 10 officers, including one of Kyiv’s top targets: Col. Gusein Musayev, commander of the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade.
The death toll was among the highest from any single strike since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine two years earlier. It was the first in a string of attacks that the Ukrainians carried out with Stupnikov’s help, making him one of the most consequential saboteurs in recent military history. Ukraine used the intelligence and coordinates he supplied to kill more than 300 Russian soldiers, according to interviews with his handlers, video footage, text exchanges and official Russian reports.
quote:
The more his sabotage efforts succeeded, the more Stupnikov feared he was sticking out. Eventually, he was the battalion’s only remaining officer from the cohort that was there when he joined in November. Every other soldier involved in planning the unit’s combat operations had been killed, wounded or moved to another part of the front. Increasingly, suspicion of a high-level saboteur grew.

You're ready for a bunch of communist retards to win on the 3rd because that will help Ukriane somehow?
You do realize that the only incentive Trump has to even attempt to appear normal is that it's pre-November 3rd, right? What exactly do you think a lame duck Trump who only has executive power at that point is going to do?

Musk approached Trump to slow down Starlink in Ukraine SpaceX founder had publicly blamed president for chaos over restrictions, but sources say he initiated them

Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal.
The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions. One of the sources said Mr Trump “agreed” with Mr Musk’s suggestion, paving the way for the Pentagon to execute the slowdown on Starshield, the military-grade version of the satellite communications system.
quote:
On Wednesday, Mr Musk denied he was responsible for limiting Starlink access, blaming the White House. He claimed that “any limits on speed or usage” were “decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS”, referring to Mr Trump.
However, after what was described as a “night of carnage” in Kyiv because of the blackout, a senior source said Mr Musk had been alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
quote:
The source said: “He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it.
The reality is that they were both in it.” A high-ranking European official and two well-placed Ukrainian sources confirmed this version of events.
And what does Trump have to say about it?

No doubt, but Putin’s excuses are just to give him cover. But NATO isn’t going to accept Ukraine as a member especially with a war going on.
