Ukraine will step up strikes on Russian refineries in response to Moscow's aerial terror, Zelenskyy says
KATERYNA TYSHCHENKO — 3 October, 19:44
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine will increase its strikes on Russian oil refineries in response to Moscow's new campaign of airstrikes aimed at forcing people to flee Kyiv and other cities.
Source: Zelenskyy in an interview with Reuters
Details: Zelenskyy said Ukraine will react to Moscow's change of tactics, but it will not respond in kind by indiscriminately striking civilian infrastructure.
Quote from Zelenskyy: "We have to respond in any way [we can]. With their attacks on our energy, we have to respond on their energy. First of all, oil refiners: what gives money to them for this war. But we will not respond, of course, just like them, on any civilian objects."
Details: Zelenskyy also noted that Ukrainian intelligence has obtained documents indicating that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has issued a "new doctrine" of military attacks on a much broader range of civilian targets ahead of this winter.
Quote: "We saw documents and we know that they allow them to attack infrastructure ... logistics ... roads, schools, hospitals, to pressure people to leave the capital, leave different cities. This is the goal of the operation."
Details: According to Zelenskyy, the reason for the policy shift was Putin's desire to appear strong at a time when his troops are losing ground in Donbas and suffering heavy casualties.

At some point you'd think Ukraine has to go after Russia's power grid

It would be smart to take an inventory of their resources. Could they severely impact Russia’s refining and their electrical grid at the same time?
I would make sure that the crippling blows to refineries can continue.

Oil prices were ok until we had to go after Iran and then the price boomed.
Ukraine is defending themselves. Russia started the war.

But most of the world has sanctioned their refined products.
Maybe you don't know much about how global trade works.

Hey Tard,
If either this administration or the prior one had actually supported Ukraine, instead of fake, token support, the war would have been over a long time ago and a lot of suffering would have been avoided. Supporting Ukraine now is still the best plan to reduce suffering both in Ukraine and Russia, and in the rest of the world.

Moldova is getting hit with Russian drones every day. Today, five drones in 15 minutes is not a coincidence nor navigation error.
The escalation has continued its course. Moldova is now a war zone. Don't get mad at Russia, that's like blaming a snake for biting you. This is Brussel's fault entirely. But the main point here is that all of the EU is seeing first hand what ignoring the Russians gets you. Overwhelming responsive force is the only answer.

Drones reportedly struck Russia’s Khanskaya military airfield in Adygea, near Maykop, overnight, with locals reporting a major fire at the base. The airfield hosts the 272nd Training Aviation Regiment and has previously been used by Russian combat aircraft. At the same time, loud explosions were reported near the Hvardiiske military airfield in Russian-occupied Crimea. The impact of the strikes is still being assessed.

Zelensky says Operation Vivaldi is still underway, with about 125 to 140 km2 deoccupied.
He puts Russian losses at about 42,000 a month over the past 2 to 3 months, up from 30,000 to 32,000 earlier this year.
Of that monthly figure, 21,000 to 22,000 are killed and the rest badly wounded, he says. He adds Ukraine’s losses in the offensive are several times lower.
Zelensky says Ukraine will close its current funding gap by year-end. He says part of a loan for next year will be used around January to order drones for Jan and Feb 2027.
He says he trusts the US wants to stop the war, but talks with Russia can drag as Putin keeps adding demands depending on shifts in the US, Europe, and other factors.
Zelensky says Putin may try to use US talks with Iran and Trump’s drive for a win before the midterms. He adds the US is much stronger than Russia and just needs to remember that.

Explosions In Kaluga: A Factory Producing Iskander And Kh-101 Missiles Was Hit
quote:
On the night of October 3, 2026, in Kaluga (Russia) a series of explosions rocked the city amid a drone attack. It later emerged that the target of the attack was the company JSC “Voskhod,” also known as the Kaluga Radio Tube Plant, which manufactures electronic components for the Russian military-industrial complex. The OSINT project Supernova+ reported that the facility may have been hit.
Judging by video footage that has surfaced online and testimonies from local residents cited by Supernova+, a fire broke out on the plant’s premises.

Amid the nighttime attack, claims emerged online that one of the possible targets could have been the Kaluga Radio Tube Plant, a facility belonging to the Russian military-industrial complex, which currently operates as JSC “Voskhod.”
According to the Ukrainian government portal “War and Sanctions,” operated by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the “Voskhod” plant is not merely an industrial facility but a key manufacturer of high-precision microelectronics for Russian weapons.
More than 90% of the plant’s total output is supplied directly to meet the needs of the Russian Armed Forces.
The plant manufactures electronic components without which Russian missiles simply cannot fly:

Looks like Fridman didn't have any London City law firms on retainer. Big mistake.
quote:
EU lifted sanctions on Fridman. Luxembourg still won’t let him touch the assets.
We’re talking a 37.9% stake in LetterOne, valued at $21.5 billion, plus $500 million in dividends that banks refuse to release because UK and US sanctions remain in place.
Britain did the job right. When Brussels blinked, London replaced the canceled EU restrictions with its own. And for now, that’s enough to keep the money frozen.
The lesson: sanctions only work when someone is willing to hold the line after the political pressure starts.

This is how to react to Russian escalation. Simply announcing this aid from Berlin is not loud enough. Merz goes all the way to Kyiv and stands in front of the destroyed National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine building and makes the announcement there. Just to make sure everyone sees the connection.
So yeah Putin, keep doing what you think is best. But prepare for the consequences.

Are they telling us that this kind of civilian medical research is being done in Irkutsk, in the wastelands north of Mongolia? Where no university hospital complex nor urban population center exists? Just desert 300 miles from the Chinese border?
I still can't get over how devious it was for Zelensky to hide the biolab there. /sarc
I remember 4 years ago how many people here in this thread? (well, the former thread) were very upset about the biolabs. Why aren't they in here now, expressing their outrage? Where's the uproar that Russia may have unleashed the next equivalent of the COVID -19 pandemic?

Good point and you are correct sir.
Bio Labs wad one of the top 5 reasons Putin invaded Ukraine according to the numerous Russian apologists.
Top five in no particular order:
Nazis
Bio Labs
NATO
Russia’s “manifest destiny”
