Ukraine is the perfect testing ground against real incoming drones and long range targets.

The WWII proximity fuse was an amazing invention given the technology at the time. I can only imagine what can be done today and the mother of invention needs to make it simple, accurate and cheap.

Rusdia shoeing son Ed gains with their Dummer O. Bears watching.

Key Takeaways
Russian forces recently made tactical gains in Kostyantynivka — Russia’s assessed main effort for the Spring-Summer 2026 offensive.

Russian forces began their campaign for Kostyantynivka in Summer 2025 after completing the seizures of Chasiv Yar and Toretsk — settlements northeast and southeast of Kostyantynivka, respectively.

Ukrainian forces conducted a FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile strike overnight on June 9 and 10 against a Russian military plant that produces key components for Shahed drones and missiles.

Russian forces will likely make tactical gains in Kostyantynivka in Summer 2026 but are unlikely to make operational gains against the Fortress Belt writ large.

Ukrainian forces also continued their long-range strike campaign against Russian oil infrastructure on the night of June 9 to June 10.

The Kremlin’s volunteer recruitment campaign continues to show signs of strain under the pressure of high battlefield losses and rising economic costs.

The Kremlin continues attempts to nationalize private assets of Russian citizens, likely to support state revenues and the costly war effort in Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area and in the western Zaporizhia Oblast. Russian forces recently advanced in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area.

Russian forces launched 207 drones against ISW Ukraine overnight.

A single FP-5 with the standard 2500lb. warhead was used to hit the VNIIR-Progress defense facility in Cheboksary this week. The entire facility was destroyed. One missile.

Pucker time for the Kremlin:

Interesting. Acoustic sensors were also used effectively in Britain in 1940.

Ukraine aims to isolate Crimea from Russia, drone commander 'Madyar' says

June 11, 2026 7:36 pm

Ukraine aims to isolate occupied Crimea from Russia by disrupting key military supply routes to the peninsula, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert Brovdi, known by the call sign "Madyar," said in an interview published by Reuters on June 11.

"We will isolate Crimea in the near future," Brovdi told Reuters from a command post near the front line.

Brovdi said Russian military cargo traffic along the R-280 "Novorossiya" highway, which connects Russia with occupied Crimea through Mariupol, Berdiansk, and Melitopol, has fallen by 71% over the past two weeks due to Ukrainian strikes.

"Within another month, we will have total control over the road," he told Reuters.

Brovdi said Ukraine's broader objective is to make it increasingly difficult for Russian troops and defense industry personnel to operate in Crimea and other occupied territories.

"We will create conditions that will make it extremely difficult for any military personnel or those working in the defense industry to remain in Crimea, in the temporarily occupied territories, or use the access routes to them," he told Reuters.

The comments come as Ukraine has intensified its campaign against Russian logistics routes and military infrastructure connecting occupied Crimea to Russian-controlled territory.

I even doubt that acoustic sensors would work as well for the Russians as they do for the ukrainians.

Russia went all in on one specific kind of drone for its deep strikes: the Geran (formerly known as Iranian Shahed). The Geran is now available with a wide variety of options, so that it can be used for different types of attack missions. While Russia definitely has other kinds of attack drones, the Geran performs the vast majority of missions.

But the Geran is loud and makes a very specific "lawnmower" sound, so Ukraine's acoustic sensor Network is very effective at detecting it.

Ukraine, by contrast, uses a tremendous variety of attack drones. I have significant doubts as to whether an acoustic sensor network would be very effective, as such a system wouldn't be able to focus on a narrow frequency band.

Note the Potemkin Village canvas covering dropped from the roof starting at 00:13. This is an attempt to hide the damage.

Too late.

The very strong El Nino of 1976 caused a massive Russian crop failure and need to import massive amounts of grain from the USA.

That did include Ukraine's agriculture as well

Russia's authorities and regional governors are racing to assure residents there are no fuel shortages amid an intensified Ukrainian drone campaign at Russian refineries and fuel supply roads.

Ukraine has stepped up attacks this month on key fuel supply routes in its territories occupied by Russia, including Crimea and Mariupol. Several Russian regions have been experiencing fuel shortages as Ukraine hits Russian oil refineries.

Last week, the Moscow Times reported that some gasoline stations in Moscow and regions in northern Russia have started to cap fuel purchases per driver, in a move to prevent panic buying.

Officials are playing down the fuel crisis.

Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the northwestern Leningrad region, said this week that "Supplies are being delivered according to plan, there are no shortages," as carried by Bloomberg.

Some isolated complaints about fuel shortages "do not reflect the overall situation," the regional official said.

Governors all across Russia are looking to play down the extent of the crisis.

Meanwhile, earlier this month Russia admitted for the first time that its crude oil production is falling.

Russia's crude oil production has declined since the beginning of the year as a number of local refineries are under unscheduled repairs and maintenance, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said, in the first public acknowledgement from Moscow that its output is flailing.

"We have a number of refineries under unscheduled repairs. However, we are maximizing the use of the export infrastructure," said Novak, who represents Russia at the OPEC+ meetings and at discussions about the alliance's output.

Russia is preparing to sharply reduce crude oil exports this month as mounting refinery disruptions, fuel shortages, and Ukraine's bombing campaign force Moscow to divert more barrels into the domestic market.

Exports from Russia's western ports of Primorsk, Ust-Luga and Novorossiysk are expected to fall to roughly 1.7 million barrels per day in June from 2.5 million bpd in May, according to Reuters calculations based on preliminary industry and trading data.

Grok: As of mid-June 2026, El Niño conditions are officially present and are forecast to strengthen through the Northern Hemisphere winter 2026–27.
