LA Gov 2024: Who're the Leading Candidates?

It will be an open seat. So who would be the Republican leaders possibly in line. I would suspect these are the top four as of now, not sure about others with much state-wide name recognition.
1. Eddie Rispone - Does he run again?
2. Billy Nungesser - Lt Governor but not term limited.
3. John Kennedy - US Senator and fmr state treasurer
4. Jeff Landry - La Atty General but not term limited.

Nope.

Seems like a loser.

Should have ran this time.

Maybe?
I'd like to see Clay Higgins toss his hat in the race. Not Scalise though. I like Scalise, but why would Louisiana wanna give up having the #2 GOP congressman in the nation?
Sentrius said it best before, don't go overboard on policy like Vitter did, but also have some sort of policy ideas other than taglines and catchphrases.

1. Eddie Rispone - Does he run again? NOT A CHANCE
2. Billy Nungesser - Lt Governor but not term limited. "Little Pinky" has zero shot once his sexual deviant behavior and male sexual lawsuits come to light.
3. John Kennedy - US Senator and fmr state treasurer. He is happy in DC and isn't leaving.
4. Jeff Landry - La Atty General but not term limited.
5. Cameron Henry
6. Steve Scalise

I could see Garret Graves being hard to beat

All I know is it's a pretty deep, connected, and talented pool so they better rally around one person and not have another melee primary like the last two.

Election is 2023, but the winner begins the term Jan. 2024.

Yeah... this time, it wasn't deep or talented at all which was part of the problem.

No. Too old and he’s proven he has no idea how to run a political campaign given that he let carpetbaggers absolutely fleece him, scam him out of millions and run his campaign into the ground with a Mini Trump theme that was absolutely inappropriate for this race.

2. Billy Nungesser - Lt Governor but not term limited.
frick him.
RINO as hell with not a conservative bone in his body and if he ran against JBE, I would’ve voted for JBE. And I hate Edwards.
Fat Pinky refused to help defeat JBE and never appeared at Trump rallies to support Abraham and Rispone.

3. John Kennedy - US Senator and fmr state treasurer
He’s not giving up Senator and he’ll be too old for that.
Senator is more prestigious than Louisiana Governor.

4. Jeff Landry - La Atty General but not term limited.
Support.
Good conservative that’s responsible for winning supermajorities in the statehouse and made it more conservative by getting rid of a few RINOs by spearheading the Louisiana committee for a conservative majority group. They did really good work this cycle.
Winning the Governor’s race would be a great reward for that.

I don't see any of those 4 running.
I think the GOP side will feature Garret Graves vs Sharon Hewitt. With Mike Johnson playing the role of the N. LA republican who no one knows and can't get traction in the south.

I'd like to hear more about this.
We had so much ink spilled on the top race. We never got to hear much about the legis races. I know a lot of RINOs were term limited (adios, Alario). But would like to hear more about these supposed better conservative new guys, and what Landry et al did to help.
Admittedly I'm not a huge fan of Landry, but if he helped bring more real conservatives to BR, I'll gladly tip my hat to him.

Rispone and Abraham didn’t announce a run for Governor until late last year after the midterms and that was a big mistake as local politics is a relationship business here.
For comparison’s sake, John Bel Edwards announced he was running for Governor in the 2015 election all the way back in February of 2013.
That's 2 years and nearly 10 months to the runoff in 2015. Nobody paid any attention to it and thought he was going to win but JBE made the right call announcing that early.
Our GOP candidates need to do the same and that will drive home the message that JBE is a lame duck and limit his effectiveness.

Mike Johnson is way cooler than Garret Graves though. But Garret Graves would be a great representation for Louisiana though. Louisiana, a school with a bloated and failing education system electing a governor who went to 3 universities without graduating with a degree

Sharon Hewitt and Mike Strain are two dark horse candidates.

I'm honestly more interested in seeing who the Dems will put up.
SWB
Mitch
Troy Carter
Katrina Jackson
JP Morrell
Francis Thompson
Sam Jones
Walt Leger
I would put my money on Jackson and Leger probably rising to the top of that list.

Everything I have read about Mike Johnson, pleases me. But like I said, I just don't know how much pull a N LA republican has. Especially if he runs for re-election the House in 2022 and then would have to immediately pivot to a 2023 gov race. He might have to not run for re-election and focus full time on running for gov.

Do you think Abraham will try again? What do you think about Clay Higgins?

The fact he hasn't tried to step up already makes me wonder if he wants to step up.

The top 2 are Sharon Hewitt and Scalise, by a mile, although Scalise may want to stay in D.C...Graves might enter the race, but I don't see him beating Hewitt. She would be a formidable candidate and great governor.
