Court costs. They're not cheap and as long as this trial is going to be I'm sure it's definitely not gonna be cheap.
If improvements to the legal system need to be made, it's not with the police, it's with the prosecutorial discretion of the DA and DA's not having to face financial recrimination for going off the rails on someone with no regard for evidence of innocence.
