Ridiculous. I live in a wealthy city and make well over the requirements to receive free lunch. I do not agree with this because it will never be taken away - just like any other welfare.

You're still paying for the lunch anyway (taxes and tuition).

Several States got CARES Act funding and other Covid funding and are spending it on this... I believe it was earmarked for reduced/free meals...

Same boat here... it seems Dept of Ag has decided it's buying kids lunch through the end of 2020.

Our free lunch started 2 weeks ago. At a private school. I'm not complaining.

They did free breakfast and lunch near me and all the kids got fat. They served them pop tarts and donuts every morning

No such thing.
Free X is just a term they coin to mouth breathers who do not understand what is behind it.

Take the money you saved and put it in an account for your daughter.

That was an Obama rule, that if over 50% of either the school or the school district qualify for a free lunch the entire school gets free lunch. Technically every student that lives in Orleans Parish is entitled to a free lunch, just not every charter school participates.

I’m ok with free lunches, just make sure they are healthy.

We were notified a week or wo ago that the whole school district will be on free lunch until at least December.

Yeay for the USDA and their bullshite subsidies.

They're trying to use the funds from the prior year and current year because of school closures reducing the amount of food being given out.

Honestly, feeding kids for free isn't something I'm going to get worked up about. I'd rather expand that to all kids and reduce food stamps.

Yeah, this seems to be what this is tied to. I guess it isn't that big of a deal but we certainly can afford it as can most families in our school. Wish they would spend it on something else.
