it is worth noting that "barbarians" burned many of the great libraries of the Western world, most notably, Alexandria...
Barbarians didn't burn that one. Octavian (later known as Augustus Caesar) attempted to burn rival Marc Antony's fleet at anchor in the harbor. The fire grew out of control and consumed the library. Few would consider Rome at the time to be barbarians.

thanks for the correction
here is a pretty good read on that, I had thought it was burned by Arabs (a possibility mentioned in this article - another good read)
there are several theories about what happened, the Caesar theory is the most widely accepted...

Not against the concept of intelligent life on other planets but I generally lean against the idea. I think earth is unique.

I do not believe in UFO's. However, if they exist and happen to land nearby, I trust that Bigfoot will handle them. Because he is real.

it is not entirely unfeasible that mankind advanced & had a catastrophic event (war, meteor strike, great deluge, whatever) that wiped out advancements & that we had to start over
That is pretty unfeasible - that it could occur and not leave any traces.
We have the ability to analyze continental drift over many hundreds of millions of years. We have fossil evidence going back to the generation of oxygen from sea vegetation. We have not been lucky enough to discover an actual "missing link" between our species and apes - and it would take monumentally significant LUCK for that to exist in the first place and to actually FIND it would be even more improbable.
There is absolutely no feasible way for an intelligent specie to have evolved, flourished, and been destroyed without a trace.

I always wondered why the History channel started showing so many shows about aliens?

and again, I know many will think it is crazy, but I believe that God created mankind in his own image & that after the great sin of Adam, we started DEVOLVING - we only use 10% of our brains - right?
This is crazy. And the 10% statement is not true.

It's increadibly feasible if they lived primarily in the 200 miles worth of ancient coastal plains and river valleys that now lie submerged beneath the Ocean. The odds of us finding remains of pre-flood civilizations prior to the invention of modern LIDAR (which has only been in use in archaeology during the last decade) were essentially zero because we weren't even looking in those places.
However, I think most of us are saying that the advanced societies were humans, not some other species.

To deny that life exists outside of Earth I think is foolish, given the infinite nature of space. However, it's the infiniteness of space and time that makes the probability of us coming into contact with another form of life at the same time in the same place highly unlikely imo.
Any life form that can master interstellar travel is mind boggling, the best we could hope for is that they're non hostile.

It wouldn't shock me that flying saucers and all of that were real, but that those piloting the vehicles were American Airmen.
True, but they took it too far with the anal probing.

Yeah that's about the way I feel about it.

I believe there are other advanced civilizations out there. I believe it is possible they have visited Earth. I don't necessarily believe there is some massive alien cover-up by governments, but it would not surprise me either if it turned out there was one.

I mean-there are a lot of big craters around the globe. A meteorite could certainly be called a "projectile." Look at the Tunguska Event
There was no crater or meteorite fragments found at the Tunguska event and some natives who witnessed the explosion said the object changed directions before it exploded.
What actually caused the Tunguska explosion is still a mystery.

As far as what I personally think, I'll just say the universe is more incredible than human beings are capable of imagining.

Don't know about aliens/ufo matters.
I do believe in spiritual beings and there are a lot of interesting creatures, beings, items described in Scripture which may lead us to believe in aliens/ufos.
Believe there is more surrounding us than we realize, fwiw

Could these things have be caused by a massive meteorite impact
Of course it could.

That brings evolution more into question than existence of foreign intelligence
