quote:

All homeless people living on Los Angeles' Skid Row must be offered housing by October 18, a federal judge ordered Tuesday.

The order comes in response to a federal lawsuit filed last year by several citizens, business owners, and community leaders who argue officials have failed to address the homeless crisis in Los Angeles, as tents line full city blocks and makeshift shelters cramp under street overpasses.

"Los Angeles has lost its parks, beaches, schools, sidewalks, and highway systems due to the inaction of city and county officials who have left our homeless citizens with no other place to turn," US District Judge David Carter said in the 110-page brief.

quote:

According to the brief, city and county officials must offer and provide shelter to Skid Row's general population within 180 days, on or before October 18, 2021. Unaccompanied women and children must be offered housing within 90 days.

quote:

Calling it an "unprecedented pace," Garcetti said Tuesday he would not comment on the order before fully understanding how the judge envisions the timeline successfully happening.

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer also withheld comment on the plan. "We just received this massive order from Judge Carter," Feuer said at a press conference. "We are reviewing it as I speak today, and we'll have more to say about it in the near future, but today I will just indicate that we're still analyzing the court's ruling."

I mean if we're going to be very liberal let's say 10% take the offer (I imagine it will be closer to 3%)....is the judge going to let those homeless people come live in his guest room?

I'd send them all to the Judge's house.

Know how I know the judge has never spent 10 minutes with a homeless person?

Sadly our tax dollars pay for this.

California will blow out their budget giving drug addicts free hotel rooms and free drugs, and when the state needs a bailout to pay for it the Dems will give it to them as a “stimulus” using federal tax money.

Seems like the judge is just making up laws.

Yep. So many of them don’t want anything else.

It was wild to learn that.

Met a PhD homeless guy. He said he wanted to be where he was. Wasn’t looking for help.

Let's send some of them to Pelosi's ranch and some to her gated community. The judge can mandate that she feed them one ice cream bar three times a day.

Let it break them. You want to encourage and attract homeless? The citizens who voted for officials who cotton to that behavior should be A-OK ponying up the tax dollars to shelter them vs having them ruin their public spaces.

You feed and encourage strays but don't want to deal with the consequences? Tough shite.

Well, LA and California really deserve this...

Skid Row's general population

How do you even determine this? What happens when they get them in a place to live and a new group occupies the spots they vacated?

Cannot make it up, lol...

I have a friend who is a social worker who works with a lot of clients in metro St. Louis. It’s a revolving door of odd behavior. Get a person set up on their medicine (free) in an apartment (free). When the meds are due to be refilled, the person doesn’t pick them up and just leaves their free apartment to move back to living under a bridge.

Exactly how I read it.
How did we get to this point? Laws and mandates based on a single person's white guilt.
