I will never understand why someone who performs for general audiences would think it makes sense to go on stage and basically insult half of them.
Audiences really are pretty flexible. I enjoy a great many artists who I know are liberal in their own views. Having your audience pay for tickets though and then going on stage to insult them?

Half the country is conservative and people generally become more conservative with age. His audience is a bunch of people in their 50s and 60s. WTF did he expect?

I listen to what I want, watch what I want and read what I want.
I love Neil Young's music. I can't imagine not listening to it because of his political stances.
Now, I don't want to hear them espoused at a concert I'm paying for, so that would definitely be a turnoff.
