It was a small-venue acoustic show, which are always very informal. Mellencamp was telling a story about his grandmother, not Marx, and the heckler interrupted him. It was rather rude.

You apparently didn't read any of the reviews from the link you posted.

Here you go you lazy motherfricker
It looks to me like about a quarter of the reviewers did not like the show (one or two stars) and way more than half awarded four or five stars.

Not sure why you think I had some obligation to find YOUR source, though. You don't see me complaining about providing links for you, do you? It is kind of how message boards WORK, compadre.

If you're going to walk out because of one heckler saying one thing, 25% of the reviewers is more than enough to be relevant in this story.

Remember how the name "Little Bastard" was always listed in the album credits in his records in the 80s (and possibly 90s)?

That was a pseudonym for Mellencamp. Because he actually was a little bastard and he knew it and was proud of it.

The song "Troubled Man?" It's 100% autobiographical and confessional.

Mellencamp is a career jerk. I don't feel bad for that guy just about no matter what.

Look, our heckler bought a ticket to a small-venue acoustic show, and expected to be attending a greatest hits concert. If HE had read the reviews, he would know that was not what he was going to be attending. In any case, he did not like it, and he acted like an arse.

As I said, Mellencamp should have, just thrown the heckler out and continued the show for everyone else. Yes, walking out makes makes him something of an arse as well, which I acknowledged above.

None of which is the point of this thread or of my initial comments.. If you do not want to attend an intimate, small venue acoustic show, don't buy a ticket for one. It is really that simple.

For three pages, posters here asserted that the heckler was complaining about Mellencamp making comments praising Biden (clearly NOT the case), when he was simply telling the same type of story that he had been telling for the entire tour ... as reported in all the earlier reviews.

Those posters just accepted a false representation from social media, and they went with it ... because it satisfied their preconceptions. That is intellectually lazy. In the first three pages of the thread, I was the ONLY poster to stop, think and research. That is just sad.

I never told you you had to find my source.

And yeah, there were some good reviews on there. My main point was that he pulled that same schtick in every show..even in a lot of the positive reviews, people pointed this out. He goes out of his way to be a jackass. Read interviews with him. Watch the YouTube with Maher. And full disclosure, I’m a fan of his music even though my politics don’t line up with his. There are a bunch of ways he could get his point across without acting like an a-hole but instead he does this…

Read the article about THIS show. The heckler was attacking Mellencamp for telling a personal story about his grandmother, when the heckler wanted a "greatest hits" concert.

THIS confrontation had NO political elements, whatsoever. It was a guy who THOUGHT he would be attending one type of show and acted like an arse when it turned out that he had purchased a ticket to a different type of show.

Yes, he is a prima donna. Always has been,

Absolutely. But that is not what this thread was about. It was about a claim that he was heckled for singing the praises of Joe Biden, which was manifestly untrue.

I acknowledged that.

I’m just talking about the heckling itself. If Mellencamp had been playing hit after hit, and then took a break to talk about his grandmother, and then this guy heckled it’s one thing. And I’m not so much defending the heckler as I am saying I don’t think it was the one thing…I’m saying I think it was likely the dude was tired of hearing stories before every song, got fed up and boiled over ….just my opinion of course.

Also, I could be wrong but I don’t think the whole show was acoustic. Just that set.

I didn't see a show on this tour, but from what I have read this tour reminds me of a Ron White show. Bear with me.

EVERY second of Ron's performance is scripted, from every puff on the cigar to every sip of bourbon from the cut crystal highball glass. The entire hour-plus is a seamless piece, and Ron completely loses his shite if someone breaks the flow.

It seems that Mellencamp was doing something similar on this tour, with the movie clips and poetry readings scattered through the performance.

Sounds like it. His set lists also hardly ever change. I just find the guy abrasive which is bad enough in general but when he seems to purposely antagonize his own fans, I just think it crosses the line. And although he’s always been a jerk, I think now he literally gets off on seeing how much he can be one.

Apologies for the earlier name calling. That was uncalled for.

Melloncamp wants non political guy to pay for damages.

That’s how they think.

Just like you don't buy a house near an airport and then complain about the noise, you don't go to a Mellencamp show and complain when he shares some of his political views.
A couple of things here:

1. When you buy a house near an airport, you expect the noise. You do not expect to get a political lecture.

2. When you buy a concert ticket with YOUR OWN DAMN, NON-WELFARE MONEY, you expect to hear the performers play their songs. You do not expect to get a political lecture.

What is wrong with losers like yourself?

Pretty sure I already gave you your cookie for being special on the thread. From the outset, in fact. On other threads I have been the guy who actually watches the video/reads the link/etc. You don't have to be around here long to understand that only a single digit percentage of people who post here do that sort of thing. Being the smartest or most thorough poster on any given thread on this board is a very low bar. Case in point, after all of this discussion about it, you're still getting replies assuming that he made a political speech.

Pretty sure we've already covered everything in that post above, in fact. Some of it in more than one exchange.

I understand and have responded to all your points. You don't seem to be hearing mine from my last one. We've already covered the original point, so I am moving on to one of my own.

I don't care why the guy was heckling Mellencamp. I don't care that it was his fault.

Karma's a bitch. And so is Mellencamp. So I don't feel bad for him no matter what. I'm glad the guy was an arse. Maybe it gave him a tiny fraction of a taste of what everybody else in his life endured from him for 50+ years.

This is nothing new for Mellencamp. He's hard to work with both professionally and personally. To think, he does this all sober.....which probably is a problem.

He’s not really.

I honestly couldn’t be paid to attend a concert of his and that has nothing to do with this incident.

I would consider attending however if I thought I might get an “invitation” to meet with that asshat backstage. That would make it worth it.
