All of that is wrong. Joe Legal , married and with two kids, the take home after taxes (in Texas.. no income tax) is $50, 222, not $31,232 as you suggeste

Your 50,222 is wrong as well. There is thing called social security and medicare (7.65%) taken out of your paycheck. 52,000 X .9235 = 48,022. Now about the states there is a wide disparity. It could be 0% to the high of over 10% if you're in California, Hawaii, New Jersey and New York.

The Grok link I shared spells out the federal taxes. First, there's the $30k deduction, that leaves AGI of $22k, then they also get child tax credits against the tax on the $22k. Net is, they get take home of >$50k.

No sales tax in Texas you can use the Grok link and continue by asking to recreate the numbers in a taxing state, like Louisiana. Here, I did it for you: $810 Louisiana Income Tax per Grok 4

Take home would be $49, 412.

I concede that AI is one thing. Actual numbers may vary. My point was to indicate that OP was way off base.

For starters, there are more taxes taken out of "take home pay" than just state income tax. FIT & FICA say hello.

Well, if he's married with dependents and that's the sole income his taxes would be less. And your state matters too.

But it plays out all the same.

Yes, it is.

This is how Joe would pay federal income tax.

Table 1. 2025 Federal Income Tax Brackets, Single Taxpayers
Tax Rate Taxable Income Bracket, Single
10% $0–$11,925
12% $11,926–$48,475
22% $48,476–$103,350

The vast majority of his income is only subject to a 12% federal tax. There's no way state taxes bring that up to 31%.

Everyone gets it but some people don't care because they are like Joe Illegal, they make money under the table and pay little to no taxes as well and get all their benefits for free.

This is not a system that can change on it's own or through elections.

And remember our swamp Repubs allowed this to happen bc they all work together. We have some vocal ones but most all work in unison with the uni party.

To make it worse, Joe legal would make $40 a hour if there were not illegals driving down wages.

This is the truth. If you own property, the taxes are a wash. You just swap one for the other.

That being said, it’s a better system than the state taking part of your income every year no matter what you purchase or don’t purchase.
