Just over a week after he was sworn in as governor, Jeff Landry directed state agencies to collect and publish data on immigrants living in Louisiana, a move that could increase the state’s chances of success with litigation over the federal government’s immigration policies.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Landry said the executive order will help calculate immigration's costs to the state so that Louisiana can send a bill to President Joe Biden.
"We just put out an executive order now that we have gained full control of the governorship here in Louisiana, so that we can calculate the cost of a (border) policy by Joe Biden and them, on state taxpayers," Landry told host Neil Cavuto, adding that the state plans to tally, among other things, the costs of imprisoning immigrants who commit crimes.
quote:
The seven-page order rails against Biden’s immigration policies and paints the state’s “illegal aliens” as a major economic burden and safety risk.
The order’s definition of “illegal aliens” includes people authorized to be in the country, such as those with “temporary protected status,” “parole” or “deferred action.”
The order mandates that all state agencies come up with a plan to analyze and report to the governor public expenses that directly or indirectly benefit immigrants within four months. It also directs the state police to work with local law enforcement agencies to collect data about all immigrants charged with crimes in Louisiana. Within the next six months, the Department of Public Safety and Corrections must find a way to regularly publish that data.

This is the way.

This is the kind of political stunt I expected with Landry, and it seems pretty harmless. Just gathering data to make a political point.
That said, immigration is hardly on Louisiana's top 20 problems. Immigrants don't come here for the same reason citizens leave; we don't exactly have a booming economy.

What if illegals are eating 5% of the budget.
What else could that 5% be spent on like enhancing the economy?

Yeah, what a baffoon. Gathering data that shows harm so a court can't reject a law suit against the government. What an idiot...

Like I said, I don't really care about getting the data. More data is always good.
But don't delude yourself into think this will fix anything.

The data is needed if we can’t punch our way out of this.

What?
Healthcare
Education
Food
Housing
Police usage
Public services
Sewage
Water
Etc, etc
Do these people come with millions and pay for everything on their own?

You sound like the prototypical poster who has a personal ax to grind with Landry so you shite on anything he does.

There’s not enough going on in Louisiana for illegals to even want to be there.

It’s amazing that you have to spell it out for some of the smooth brains around here.
Educating migrants kids is costing La in the millions. The man hours it takes to attempt to make them English speakers is incredible. That’s all time and money that could be used to make some of our native born population English readers and speakers.

When i see women holding signs saying they are migrants begging for money on our highways we have a problem.
More people crossed the border than Louisiana has residents. We could easily be completely fricked. This is a very serious matter.
