Applied to the country for electoral college power. Interesting explanation for those who don't understand.

Reagan is starting of when things went south for America. Clinton and Bush just took advantage of the opening he created

Actually started under LBJ.

I agree. Gun control came about with Reagan over the fear of armed minorities in urban areas. He also punted on the issue of immigration. We all love The Gipper but he did those who came after him a terrible disservice.

In 1986 Reagan was under the early onset of Alzheimer's. Nancy was guiding his hand under the advice of GHWB. GHWB and Tip O'Neal fooled Nancy. Reagan couldn't be fooled because he really did know what he was doing.

That’s what happens when you add a million new potential voters to the rolls with the stroke of a pen. Forget the is it right or wrong part, it’s the flipping of the electorate balance of power on its head overnight that is so destructive. California has never and will never recover from Reagan’s amnesty because it simply put an arbitrary weight on the scale of political power

Didn’t Reagan grant amnesty with some immigration reform handshake deal that the dems reneged on? If I’m remembering right.

This is true. I forget the details.

That's the DC of "bipartisan civility" that so many people claim to be longing for.

It's amazing the difference between California Mexicans, who by-in-large are conservative Catholics and Florida Cubans who fled communism. The Cubans in Florida are smart enough to avoid/escape the D trap that the Mexicans are stuck in.

Suddenly, a board that has for years downvoted me religiously for saying this, now completely falls in line with JD Vance.
Amnesty was Reagan’s fatal flaw. He opened the floodgates.

If you aren’t old enough to remember what it was like living in America under Carter, you may need to temper some of your criticism of Reagan
He no doubt made mistakes, but he also helped save the country from a second depression and absolutely squashed the Soviets.

Who was GHWB under the influence of when he went against his "read my lips no new taxes" promise in 1990?

You understand it's possible to appreciate a president like Reagan as a really good and even great President, while still acknowledging he made a mistake or two along the way?
Who holds any elected official to some sort of absolute standard of infallibility?

Reagan had a LOT of flaws. Immigration was one of the biggest.

Reagan is starting of when things went south for America.
In 1980, Reagan’s base represented the wing of the GOP that was opposed to globalist organizations (then called “internationalism”) like the Trilateral Commission which had been founded by David Rockefeller. Reagan railed on Padre Bush’s membership in the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations and likewise argued for a return to the Gold Standard:
Yet these issues were summarily taken off the table after Reagan won the GOP nomination. Reagan himself was forced to embrace Rockefeller Republicanism when he named George Bush to be his VP pick.
The lesson here is that the UniParty® exists to perpetuate the Deep State and the Deep State exists to perpetuate our nation’s print-on-demand monetary system. God bless the MAGA movement but this is why any vote in this UniParty® charade is a ultimately vote for the left or right wing of the CIA.
Trumpism, like Reaganism before it, will thus ultimately fail. Nothing changes until this nation returns to sound monetary policies: NOTHING.
“The Trilateralist Commission is international and is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United States. The Trilateralist Commission represents a skillful, coordinated effort to seize control and consolidate the four centers of power – political, monetary, intellectual, and ecclesiastical.” Barry Goldwater, No Apologies.

Reagan had to deal with an incompetent House and Senate. Besides, his policy broke the Soviet Union. Bush started the slide with his NWO bs out in the open.

Like him, I am a Reagan Conservative, but JD is absolutely correct with his assessment of Reagan and illegal immigration. Once he made that deal with the devil, the precedent was set and the country was screwed.
Posted on 10/31/24 at 4:41 pm to Major Dutch Schaefer
Vance is partially correct, however, California was trending forever blue well before Reagan's Amnesty deal.
