It's time for car dealerships to die

They only exist due to crony legislation that protects them and prohibits direct sales. Has there ever been a car salesman that you didn't want to tell to "go to hell and say hi to your mother for me"?

Elon can definitely spearhead this movement.

They also exist to service the car you buy and uphold the warranty the manufacturer provides to cover repairs.

I don’t ever deal with the finance dept, and I have a salesman I’ve bought 8-9 cars from over the last 6 years. Never had an issue. Some of yall just choose to make life hard

Then they can convert to manufacturer showrooms and service centers without the non transparent sales aspect of their current business

It was a problem during the initial rush to automobiles that car companies spin up sold cars with warranties and then basically collapsed with no one to service or honor the contracts.

I'm not sure this is still as big a problem although potentially with the huge market shift coming in electric cars it could resurface.

I would like to see this changed across the various states. I like avoiding pointless middlemen in expensive transactions. If I like Rivian why should I have to go buy one through a dealer who also needs margin and has to cover their ad budget and overhead too... Vs just buying from the manufacturer

They would just turn into delivery prep and service centers. No sales staff.

Yep,

can't beat the car cartel or the liquor distributor cartel.

You can do the overwhelming majority of that yourself for far cheaper.

On modern cars? Not really.

You can save money with an independent garage, but it's extremely difficult to properly do a great deal of work on modern cars.

Exactly what Tesla is. There’s maybe one or two reps at the dealership and they don’t pressure you. They direct you to the Tesla website to make a purchase or schedule a test drive

The long term money is in service. Make the sale, hook 'em on the service. The warranties help them do this.

Why would you go to a dealership for non-warranty issues? Only a fool would do that.

Not with many new cars by design.
