it started with the blue checks on social media. we've already been conditioned for it. how do we know someones social media account is real and not a bot if its not "verified" by a blue check? this trickles down to "how do i know your citizenship without digital ID"?

That's Nancy Pelosi supporting the renewal of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). While the stated intent of the Section is to collect communications (like emails and phone calls) of non-citizens outside the U.S. without a warrant, it often sweeps up Americans' data incidentally when they communicate with foreign targets, which can be (and has been) queried without a warrant.

Something like mass surveillance is rarely going to be dropping a frog into an already-boiling pot of water, but rather the slow heating of water it's already in, allowing it to slowly adjust while the frog doesn't realize it's boiling to death.

This isn't a Left v Right problem (as such legislations usually pass with support from both parties), but Big Government vs Citizens.
