In countries like Canada they are criminalizing the end use. Not the person providing the sevice.

But, it's their choice or pretty much would be if it were regulated. Arresting someone for selling or paying for sex is ridiculous. Especially with porn being a major thing

One reason why I'm against prostitution is that it dehumanizes women and perpetuates the idea that women are nothing more than sex objects to be used and thrown away. It removes their dignity, as I see it, and preserving the dignity of women should be a "feminist" issue.

Which is perfectly in line with feminism. Maximize all restraints on male sexuality, while simultaneously minimizing all restraints on female sexuality.

Exactly. For the record, I say legalize vice and tax the shite out of it.

Here's a related question. How come the "my body my choice" crowd doesn't fight for the legalization of prostitution?
Probably for the same reason that the people who scream about voter id being discriminatory are just fine with requiring ID to buy a gun LOL hypocrites with no real principles.
I actually agree with this.

Legal prostitution is the ultimate empowerment of women. If liberals really believe all this "it's a woman's body" hype then legal prostitution is a no brainer. And yes I support legal prostitution 100%.

I'd be fine with making stripping for money illegal, but there are other potential negatives associated with prostitution that aren't present with stripping that makes prostitution worse in my mind and not exactly the same, even if they both dehumanize women. I think both are wrong, personally.

What about the positive aspects of prostitution?

quote:This is the Swedish model and it still works against women in every way except the actual arrest. They still have to meet clients in secret and ever-changing locations instead of just having a fixed brothel, which is inherently less safe. They can't organize into groups (since the sale is still illegal, just not criminalized) or hire security (since that would technically be pimping) and they're significantly tax-disadvantaged. Also, women who are known to be prostitutes still suffer from low-level harassment by cops; if a cop is following you, he might not be able to arrest you, but you won't make any money.

quote:That's a non sequitur. You said that it's wrong and should be illegal because it "dehumanizes" women. Now you're special pleading to "dehumanization is bad unless it has some [unexplained] benefits."
Modeling has benefits that go beyond ogling the models.
What makes any of these professions inherently more dehumanizing than any other low-level service industry job? If a woman works as a maid is she being "dehumanized" and reinforcing the sexist presumption that women are domestic servants?

It's an illogical model and that's what you get with modern day feminism. However, it's their workaround for saying sex work is patriarchial and therefore should be illegal. Let's criminalize the men for it because the girls are there because of the patriarchy and their "daddy wounds".

Good points.

I'm curious to see what would happen to the economy and work force if prostitution was legal. I assume that a far number of women would drop out of the traditional work force all together and escort full time. I'm more than positive that your lower wage earning women would at least do it part time to supplement income.
