It cannot be fixed if we continue to depend on greedy private insurance companies. They, along with big pharma, own Congress, who do the bidding of these crooks.

Those who pushed it would have infinitely preferred a single-payer system, and ACA was meant to be the first step in a journey that takes us right there.
This is the lie that was sold but I don’t believe anyone in DC has or had any interest in a single payer system. They are all too far removed from us plebs.
Everything that Congress passes hurts average Americans. Everything. The best thing for us would be for Congress to have an extended recess. Even the cash handouts hurt us through inflation. No one in DC cares about any of us.

I just had on my gallbladder and I owe over 2000 dollars. So do I have insurance or not.
Well my answer is yes bc without it your bill for any surgery would be many multiples of $2K
I think OP point is that he paid those many multiples in advance of the surgery in the form of premiums. And he would have had to pay it even if he didn’t have the surgery.
And I think his other point is that the rate of increase of insurance premiums has outpaced the rate of increase in other sectors, including income. We’re paying for the bureaucracy, not the actual care.

Oh, I was able to keep my doctor,
So, your doctor wasnt one of the thousands that converted to "boutique" practices where you paid a "subscription" to be their patient and they would no longer deal with insurance?
My PCP of 15 years did this as soon as ACA kicked in, after having sung its praises and arguing with me about it getting passed.

shite skyrocketed for me in 2014 when I wasn’t allowed to opt out of certain line item coverages like maternity coverage, thanks to Obamacare. That alone caused an increase of $200/month.
$660/mo in 2013 to $1,100/mo in 2014 to cover myself and family. And not a single Republican asshat in DC, whether Trump, Massie or Paul, has made that a primary issue. Just like the ignoring of forcing corn ethanol into gasoline.

Wait til the vax shots are proven to kill early, there will be no private insurance.

What is happening in the property insurance space is criminal. We're being sucked dry!

Obama promised that we'd all save $2,500 on medical costs, but all we got was a bill for thousands more to pay for his freeloading voters.

You can thank Jug Ears for the mess we’re in right now.

your small children from 2000 should be grown now and have their own insurance
Posted on 7/6/25 at 11:44 am to DeafVallyBatnR
How old were your 3 children in 2000?

Let us assume the government could run insurance at the same efficiency as current for profit providers. And that their profit is returned to you.
Congrats on your 5% reduction in premiums, retard.

Excellent point. OP is either insuring more children than he did in 2000 or he and his wife had triplets all born with special needs.
Frankly, I don't believe his numbers.

It doesn’t feed of(f) any emotional appeal
First, I would like to say it is good you post here as I believe you are genuine in your sentiments and it is good to hear different points of view.
However, that statement you made is not remotely true. Think of all the drug ads you see on TV; I cannot think of a single one that makes a straight forward objective appeal to curing something; it is all based on emotion; you will look better, you will live to see your grandchildren, you will emerge in the sunlight and be happier,….
Furthermore, the idea that your survival depends on access to our current healthcare system does not make sense. How did we survive as humanity without this modern health care system prior to now? Many people would say we were healthier before the advent of this current system.
It seems the promoters of this system have convinced you that they are indispensable for your health and the health of everyone in the US,….could you entertain the idea that you could be wrong?

I’ve turned down jobs in the past because their health insurance was too much. Smaller companies just don’t have the numbers to spread the premiums. Obamacare was an indictment on small business and middle America.

This. Insurers control prices. First step is to eliminate PBM's and then start breaking up insurance monopolies. Consolidation has eliminated true competition and private insurers want care to be more expensive. If care were cheaper, people wouldn't be paying these insane rates.
As a provider, I haven't had a raise in 20 years. In fact, I get less per visit on average than I did in 2025. Pharmacies have been slashed. Hospitals have gotten tiny raises, but not enough to keep pace with inflation.
Medicare advantage plans have gotten nice fat arse raises, but failed to pass it along. Time for doctors and patients to start opting out. That's my next step. Dealing with insurance puts a huge time and financial burden on my practice. I can do better going cash only, but many of my patients would have to seek care elsewhere. I'm trying not to, but the last 5 years have been rough and nobody gives a shite. I've gone into my pocket the last time. Next step is trimming staff and overly burdensome patients with shitty insurance. Next will be medicare entirely. Too many healthcare dollars are being wasted on administrative bullshite and into the system for the business people.
