Consumption tax. Then everyone pays - illegals, people who work under the table, drug dealers, etc.

Sounds good. Oh wait, the successful aren’t paying their fair share. Yet they don’t take anything in government assistance. Lower income shouldn’t pay taxes but should be able to take lions share of government assistance. Sounds fair for working hard and having initiative. If I was an immigrant looking in from the outside, current social policies sound wonderful.

Tax policy is a complicated and nuanced topic that resists simplifying to cause and effect analysis.

Frequently the complicated reality of tax policy today is the result of layered and contradictory attempts to mitigate damage caused by one size fits all policies of the past -- such is the reality of solutions created by representative democracy.

Your mileage may vary.

Imagine how much better everything would be if we had a flat tax. No deductions. Everyone pays. Burn the tax code

The vast majority of the hundreds of thousands of accountants and tens of thousands of IRS agents would need to learn to weld, do AC repair, etc.

There's no "easy" solution to our nations problems. If these problems aren't dealt with straight on, without political correctness, they will lead us into terrible times.

Nearly 11% of working age men between the ages of 25 and 54 are not working full-time ....that's not good.

Consumption tax would need to be 30%+. Does that apply to houses as well? Your 500k house now costs 650k.

How do you fix people getting money from the government living in government property for free and then getting the right to vote. If that was my situation I know I would vote for the people that would keep giving me free s***. I mean that's the biggest problem. Lyndon Johnson f***** us all. And there's no easy way out of this at all!

Most states have one and I can't think of any state where houses are subject to sales tax.

Hard to turn that cycle around if that’s all you know and it works. At some point, it comes down to individual motivation and parents. Public schools catch a lot of heat, but not much teachers can do if student and parents aren’t motivated. Like anything, you get out of it what you put into it.

Or we get rid of it and cut the government down to only essentials that are directly written into the constitution.

I am not opposed to any tax that isn't a property tax (rent). I don't like the idea of a sales tax because during bad economic times people will spend less and perpetuate a cycle where bad economy leads to worse economy.

A flat tax means everyone pays the same rate. A sales tax allow a person making a million dollars to only pay the same taxes in a give year that a poor person makes. People can basically withdraw there money from the economy for decades. Leading to dips and spikes in tax revenue. This would be disastrous because stopped arse politicians can't balance a budget when their money is stable.

How do you figure this? People with more money are going to purchase more goods thereby paying more in sales taxes. I don't believe you spent the time to think your statement through.
