I'm not marksman, but I've done some shooting. A 125 yard head shot with a moving target

When you are under duress --- having been spotted and screamed at, knowing that you are about to die with certainty, and missing the target by an inch or two doesn't seem amateurish.

I agree. I don't know how well situated he was, either.
I'll also add 2 things about the roof:

1. It is slightly pitched, you need to account for this
2. The metal roof may have been hot. At least hotter than he expected.

The shooter definitely wasn’t trained at all, which reinforces the more likely explanation that he was just a pissed off incel who wanted to get famous

I've shot running deer at 250 yards. A center mass (on a large man) is an easier target and just as lethal as a head shot. Right gun with the right cartridge is not that difficult at 200 much less 125.

Yet the SS sniper was able to put his shot on target with all the above conditions. Trained shooters wouldn’t miss a 148 yard shot on a human target.

So a trained marksman couldn't miss if the target moved his head at the last second?

It’s not that hard. Rifles are usually capable of much more than the person handling them.

For someone who practices at that distance it’s not that difficult

ETA: I missed the running part. Not an ethical shot but can be done

Technically (and from a forensic perspective only)sic, It was well planned throughly carried out and successful, wildly successful in my opinion.

A.) assassin got a weapon and in a firing position and multiple shots off at the President of the United States at a static event. Not a rolling motorcade a fricking event!
B.) only by divine intervention President Trump is alive today.

I get it they didn’t have enough staff the SS to cover a perimeter that encompassed the barn in question and other details of law enforcement were to cover that. But Gosh darn it

The terrorist got within 125 yards with over 25 seconds to do its bidding.

This can’t happen. But it did.

The average person isn't aware of how much adrenaline affects your shot. My first time training for that and I was complete and utter arse. Probably still am. This is why I don't believe everyone carrying a gun is necessarily a good thing. Also, that woman struggling to holster her gun was completely amped up and training wasn't kicking in

Most hunters don't know their rifle or scope or ammo well enough to take a good shot. They just see target and shot.

Goes against the conservation ethos.

Yep, thought he was doing the world a favor when in fact he unknowingly did.

Someone who has already accepted that they are on a suicide mission and considers themselves a martyr will not have the same adrenaline dump as someone reacting to the same situation

See the people who light themselves on fire for a cause

Yes - this was no trained assassin - UNLESS the short range gave the opportunity for a really "good" image of the hit.

Of course, with a center mass shot you have to consider Trump probably had some protective vest which may have been effective for saving life.

The shooter skills are not in question, what was completely amateurish was his plan. He setup on a roof where he should have been spotted by LEO before he go off a shot. Then to add to that, he should have been spotted before he was even able to climb up on the roof.
