I’m not a fan of federal agents trying to step in and crack down in these cities

Wanted to give what’s probably a different perspective and opinion on here. I’m for small government, period. And I defer to states rights and powers over federal. I prefer not to have federal agents out there patrolling the streets no matter how much they seem to be "needed".

These troops coming in won’t stop the protests and violence, that’s a generally tone deaf response. It’s like throwing fuel on the fire and will only serve to intensify the protests and draw more of them out than there were previously.

It’s election season so everything is political, this included. Is the federal crackdown a political play by Trump? Who knows, but for sure many will see it that way.

Every time the Fed gov comes in for our protection I think you all know how it turns out. It’s sad to see so many that claim to be for states rights and small government etc seeming abandon their principles on this.

Sorry, federal agents have always been in our cities. Always.

They are just protecting federal property at the moment.

Is that okay with you?

Sorry, when state and local governments abandon people and let shite go to hell in a hand basket, it’s time to step in. No need for the inmates to run the asylum. People in charge need to be prosecuted and held accountable in civil courts as well. frick them.

Seeing how the media and social media are united in screaming to the sky about these "abductions" in Portland, I'm reserving judgment until more facts come out. It would not surprise me at all if these reports are greatly exaggerated, completely justified with intelligence and warrants (they already had warrants to arrest these people and then went out and grabbed them while they were in public), or that the stories are completely false all together. It's not like the media hasn't told bigger lies recently.

I feel the same yet these local governments have failed to protect citizens and private property, therefore, fed intervention.

Anyone that is, is either putting party before country or sacrificing freedom for temporary safety from graffiti

You must be some good parent - don't reprimand the children, it will only escalate things.

Trump took an oath. You know that whole “enemies foreign and domestic”. These are domestic enemies and he has a duty to protect American citizens and property from anarchy.

While I'm gor small government too, Antifa is a terrorist organization literally preaching Marxism and a take over of the government.

So I am on board with shutting that down.

You're being absurd. The local governments are effectively siding with a violent mob that is targeting a subset of citizens that they are abandoning to the mob

You wouldn't take this position if a local government was allowing roving gangs to attack anybody they perceived as supporting gay rights.

Question. Do you believe federal troops should have enforced Civil Rights legislation, when local authorities would not?

The problem is the federal property aspect. I agree they shouldn’t just be roaming the streets arresting people all over town and performing the job that the local PD should perform (though that might be lawful
under the right conditions). However, they do have an obligations to enforce federal law and protect federal property that isn’t paid for just by the people of Portland but by every American.

Shitty analogy.

Feds are not protecting local and state property unless requested by local and state officials. In these cases fed LEO are usually backups providing logistics and resources for local and state LEO on the front lines. Federal LEOs are protecting federal property and have an obligation to do so.

They are destroying public and private property, threatening and violently assaulting civilians and law officers.

They are commiting acts of arson, acts of vandalism, acts of brutality, and acts of terror.

Enough is enough.

Being Libertarian was something in fashion 12-13 years ago. I can't believe adults still believe it's some sort of viable position. It's the Agnosticism of politics.
