Hunger is a powerful motivation to get off your arse and feed yourself.

What if the NGOs that spent billions on illegals stepped up to fill the gap?

Driving the cost down would happen if we cut these programs down. Do you think these people shop with coupons? They are a part of the problem. Your not conservative.

Cool. Tell the dems to quit their shut down of the govt then. Posts that start with "I'm a conservative but..." and then talk about an issue dems created, are the worst.

True.
Same logic can be applied to rental assistance.

Not forced.
Offered.

If you are determined by a qualified medical person that you cannot work, you can receive government assistance. If you are not, you do not get government assistance.
If you fraudulently obtain a determination for government assistance you forfeit the right to ever receive any form of government assistance again in your life time. The issuing medical person forfeits their medical credentials for the remainder of their life and is also forfeit the right to ever receive any form of government assistance for life.
It would be a giant undertaking to tear down and rebuild the corrupt government hand out systems in the country but it needs to be done because this system is not sustainable. The working class that supports this corrupt system is shrinking very fast. The end is coming faster than many people think.

Start calling Democrat Senators.

Good, healthy food should not be as expensive as it is, and its quite expensive
The healthier choices are the cheapest
You can buy chicken, lean pork, and fish at fairly reasonable prices. Beef is expensive but is the most unhealthy of the protein choices. You can buy raw vegetables and bulk potatoes, rice, beans pretty cheap.
It’s the processed pre packaged crap and junk food that drives up grocery costs and is bad for you. And this is mostly what SNAP recipients buy. I rarely see them with baskets full of lean meat and vegetables. It’s always full of sodas, little Debbie’s, processed foods

At the very least, we need to find a way to drive the cost of protein down.
If you are on snap you can eat rice and beans and frick all the way off.

I need to look into this- right now we just buy meat as we use it.
Pretty much the most expensive way to go. I got a cheap vacuum sealer when I started getting into sous vide, wanted to cook nice steaks but was living in an apartment so no grill and didn't want to make much smoke with an iron skillet either. Realized very quickly I could buy meat on sale, repackage it, label it with a sharpie, and toss it in the freezer and be much better off in terms of cost. I bought bulk rolls of vacuum sealing bags from a local food service supplier, can get them online too.

Healthy food is not expensive, junk food is expensive. A pound of carrots is $2 bucks, ground turkey is $5
If you cook your own food, its cheap to eat healthy

Boxes of necessities to supplement what you work to pay for. Breaking the generational entitlement has to start somewhere
This is what it should be. Recipients should have to go to a local govt food bank, present a card with their name showing what size box they qualify for, show ID to match to the name to eliminate the problem of recipients selling their EBT for cash, and they get a box with the basic staples and some lean cheap cuts of meat. Enough to not starve but leaves incentive to work. The only ones who get EBT as we have it today should be the elderly over 70 or truly disabled if they are below the poverty line.

This just doesnt make sense to me, and before you downvote, please listen to what I have to say.
it doesn't make sense because you're not a conservative and you're a child what a disappointment you must have been to your parents!

Sit at Walmart for an hour and tell me how all the 300 pounders with a shopping cart full of trash need SNAP. Oh and when the card runs out, watch as they pull out a wad of cash.
We should provide NOTHING MORE than basic survival. Beans, rice and maybe milk. Get a job if you want more.

It’s always the same excuses: “I voted for Trump 27x but” or “I am very conservative but” and then they type out some personal grievances that either aren’t conservative or Trump never supported at all.

Snap should be one of the least needed programs in the country to begin with. Good, healthy food should not be as expensive as it is, and its quite expensive. At the very least, we need to find a way to drive the cost of protein down.
You say this as if the only problem with SNAP is food costs and that somehow, magically, government handouts will fix that. Government's attempts to "fix" things is a big part of the problem. Remove the moronic ethanol mandate would free up a frickTON of corn for groceries as well as for livestock (considering how much we plant to meet the ethanol mandate, that would result in a big surplus of corn for a bit, which would drive prices down).
All that said, I'm not against SNAP per se, but there needs to be restrictions on what it can be used for (as referenced in other posts) and a very stiff penalty for those caught abusing the system (SNAP is one of the most easily abused programs, with many people on it selling at least some of their benefits for cash).
But beyond all that, the issue of no funding is coming up solely because the Congressional Democrats refuse to pass a clean budget and chief among their reasons is their desire to include providing free healthcare to illegals (which they avoid saying by phrasing it only as "cutting healthcare"). So if you really want to fix the issue, call any/all Democrat members who have voted against the bill (the only Democrats who have voted for it are Maine 02's Jared Golden (House) along with Nevada's Catherine Cortez Masto and Pennsylvania's John Fetterman (Senate)).
