Zero.
There were some 'effeminate' dudes around the school and neighborhood. A few turned out to be gay and others got married and had families. None became trans. Class of '83.

I know a guy who was flaming but that was about it.

80s/90s kid. Graduated in 2000. Zero with gender dysphoria. There were a few gays in high school known to dress in drag.

None. And the fellas that acted like they had sugar in their britches was few and far between. As a matter of fact, my entire schooling there was none of it…at least openly.
Boys liked hunting and sports. Girls tried to catch the attention of the boys. I’m 46, we can’t be that far removed from reality in this short amount of time…,right?!?!

Not a single one. I think they were all in the looney bin. Those really need to be brought back into service so these freaks have a place to stay.

I went to school in the 90's with some really butch dyke lesbians and some really feminine gay dudes but NONE of them claimed they were the opposite sex.
Same.
The gays were pretty closeted but most people knew but didn’t care because they were normal about it, no one stomping around waving rainbow flags.

not one. The closest were "Tomboys" for girls and "sissy's" for guys

Zero. It wasn't something we even knew about.

In the 1960's seems like every graduating class had a butch or fairy. No big deal. some play football, some march in the band

Graduated from high school in 1992. Never even heard of it back then.

This thread is simply fascinating.
A wide swath of responses and 99% say ZERO when they were in school.
This is the kind of story that used to have investigative journalists all over.

Zero. Plenty of gay friends and acquaintances, and no one gave a shite about that either.

I wouldn't label it that but in '99 I ended up at one of those mixed rehab/mental health facilities and met this....female from the mental side. Had a full stubble beard, much thicker than I can grow now that claimed to be the 4th reincarnation of Jesus. This was the first conversation we ever had and she said in her previous life she was Joan of Arc and God told her I was soulmate.
I don't believe she thought she was a man (in this version) but one of the absolute craziest people I've ever met and I've met a few. The only ones that really scared me were redhead bipolars.

I don't know, they weren't allowed to express it. If they did, they would've gotten the shite beat out of them.
I went to school in the 70s and early 80s when kids still got the shite beat out of them.

Zero and the one kid who was “gay” went straight after playground counseling.
