Man, I have some bad news for you. There people that are released from prison everyday that are shown to be completely innocent.

Our criminal justice system operates about as effectively as any other government program … which is to say, not at all.

No they aren’t

shite like the innocence project gets career criminals let out on a technicality. They’ve ended up there for one reason or another. Let the state cook bruh

A simple Google will show you that your assumption is wrong.

In our great state, a life sentences does NOT mean life in prison, absolutely.

If our legislature would pass a law where life was absolute, we could possibly justify doing away with death.

But since we don't exterminate anyone anyway, we certainly need a true life sentence on the books.

"When it comes specifically to the death penalty, I personally am not a death penalty guy. I'm pro-life. I believe pro-life is from birth to death," Rep. Dixon McMakin (R) said.

More and more conservatives are starting to have this view. I changed my stance in law school. It’s for several reasons but ultimately it can never be administered correctly unless they kill everyone who kills with intent. Add to that the cost of putting someone on death row and religious reasons and I am certainly not a fan of our government being in charge of killing someone.

Just based on my moral beliefs, I don’t want to be responsible for the state murdering an innocent person. I am all in favor of murderers and pedophiles getting a bullet in the head. I just don’t trust the government to get it right.

I’ve long offered this compromise to opponents…..the death penalty can only be used in 100% clear cut and dry cases, where there is some type of hard evidence the criminal is guilty. That would also mean swift justice and only 1 appeal.

is he a pro-life Catholic? If so then this is no surprise. It's a tenant of Catholicism.

Pro life is from conception until natural death.

I personally am pro life however if a person serving a life sentence chooses to be put to death then I think we should oblige. If they have given up then there is likely nothing more that can be done to save them.

"Thou shalt not kill" is about as conservative as it gets. God was pretty specific about this.

I cant understand how Christians support the death penalty.

Jesus obviously isn’t pro execution.

This is one of the biggest factors supporting my "intelligent people are against it" position.

Rotting in prison is a much better option.

I have no dog in this fight at all, but he didn't say anything about letting them off the hook. That would be to set them free. All he stated is he is against the death penalty.

Now as a follow up, somebody needs to ask how does he intend to stop tax payer money from keeping them in prison for life.

Personally, they do manual labor for food, water, the bed they sleep in. They grow their own food. They buy food from the earnings of what ever product they make.

Dixon is a friend of mine.

He wasn’t on my ballot, but I wouldn’t have voted for him for the simple reason he’s a good guy. I hate to see good people get into politics because it inevitably either corrupts them or disenchants them.

These folks like Dixon McMakin have it all wrong. You can be pro-life in regard to a fetus developing and eventually being born, and at the same time be for the death penalty in regard to an adult who has taken someone's life.
The unborn child is pure as snow innocent while that murderer is a grownup who knows right from wrong, and decides that he or she is free to take another human beings life.
That's my answer when someone asks me how I can be pro-life. Don't let the tag, "pro-life" box you in.
