China would be committing suicide to do this while Trump is in office.

It’s these kind of scenarios that concern me.

I don’t want to fight wars and lose American lives over foreign territories.

But…

When a superpower like China decides it will test the waters on US response and the US is passive, how do the dominoes fall?

Peace through strength works…what happens when a country wants to test that strength? China wants to test us at this level?

There are reasons for them not to do this, but if they proceed…it’s America’s move.

China is not ready to do an invasion of Taiwan. This would cause WW3 and be disastrous for China. I don't know why anyone there thinks this is a good idea.

Sadly, I think China has the much greater manufacturing ability needed to sustain a war effort than we do. They would have the initial advantage, which would likely last several years at least.

Yep

They will take taiwan eventually but it will be like hong kong, we just let it happen. Wont be much of an actual traditional invasion.

Fortunately they rely on slave labor instead of the good will and hearts of men. Most likely half their population would welcome America overthrowing the mao dynasty.

China's window is narrowing for military action again Taiwan. US is waking up and starting to rearm. Drones and missiles are in the works for production. Same for chip and related tech. Plus, China's economy and population demographics have a good chance of working against the CCP the next few decades.

They need Taiwan's population and production for control and power.

The Chinese invading force would have to cross 90 miles of open water.

Few Americans who enter these discussions realize how feckless China has actually been in terms of "taking" Taiwan.
Taiwanese territory is less than 4 miles from Mainland China, and remains untaken ... for a reason.

This is the view of Mainland China from Lion Islet, Taiwan.

We have as much to say about China’s dealing with Taiwan as China has about our dealings with Mexico and Canada.

Very little. Not our hemisphere not our problem.

Because it's far away, it's not our problem?

The US is currently in an arms and an AI race with China. Where do you think the advanced chips required for modern weapons, defense and AI come from?

Would be stupid for China to try this. Way more downside compared to upside. And if they continue the long game they will likely take it without firing a shot.

IMO they will save this for when things at home are dire and the populous is about to revolt. Nothing brings out nationalism like a war. But lose that war and it will be throwing gas on the fire of revolution……

Our debt seals the deal. We’re already at WWII debt to gdp levels. We cannot afford to fight another large scale war.

Let me say this again: thanks to the MIC lobby in DC giving away all our munitions to Ukraine so they can take kickbacks to rebuild new ones we do not have the strategic items required to sustain a ground war even in the short term.

Our Air Force and Navy are fine for the most part (although we simply don’t have the ramp up capacity we would need to fight long term due to outsourcing general manufacturing capacity via globalization), but the army and marines would have supply chain issues I don’t want to get into here.

So the next time you hear someone support giving away more gear to Ukraine, just understand that every shipment precludes our ability to rebuild our strategic military reserves which means we can’t fight Iran or China regardless of whether that’s a good idea or not.

They will take it culturally from within. They are actively getting involved in Taiwan politics.

Yeah the genius Chinese had a little math snafu regarding their population and how they plan on feeding themselves.

It’s things like this that make me wonder how smart they really are. Just saying.

Maybe, but have you noticed anything about OUR country the last several years? We ain't exactly a unified people ourselves. I'm not sure how our nation would respond. I'm not overly optimistic in a patriotic response on our home front. Nothing like the first 2 world wars, anyway.

I get this but when someone makes a move like this and it goes unchecked it emboldens other leaders to do the same creating further chaos.

I don't know. I've grown cynical enough about the state of things to believe a certain half of the country would automatically become traitorous allies with China simply because Orange Man Bad.
