Not to mention, you can spend enough time in certain neighborhoods in Miami and pretty much forget you're in the United States

Florida and California are really the only states that could thrive as independent countries. Both have seaports, agriculture, tourism, defense mechanisms, and strong business/economies. USA would be weaker if we lost either.

I've lived in 12 states and when it comes down to it, they all have their good and bad points.

Hell, I live on a farm in southern Oklahoma after living on the beach in southern California. Most people would say that Oklahoma sucks, but I love it. The only reason I would move is to escape the heat.

Just asking but weren't they their own country at one point? I know they have a wild history and such...

Floridian here.

We Have practically no manufacturing or energy production. We couldn’t survive. We would essentially become Italy.

Then cocaine, meth and bath salts would be legal.

Let's party, Republic of Florida.

I live in Clay County, Alabama.( I don't live at Opelika anymore) It's a small county in east central Alabama. Population of about 15,000.

I agree that Mobile is a dump, that's because it is so near to Florida.

People don't realize this about Florida. There is almost zero manufacturing in Florida. As a truck driver, if you take a load to Florida, there isn't much coming out, unless it's agricultural, or something imported at the ports, some beer, if you are near Jacksonville. All of it is cheap freight. It's best, not to even deliver there.

There’s a good reason I refer to the area in which I live as “Baja Alabama”. We have much more in common with our neighbors to the north than the rest of our fellow Floridians south of Lake City.

It’s true that Florida would make a pretty poor country by itself, regardless of demographics or manufacturing capacity. Unlike California, the climate is virtually unbearable 5-6 months of the year. People forget that the state’s population didn’t break the 2 million mark until WWII, and didn’t hit 4 million until air conditioning became common in the late ‘50s (it’s more than quintupled since then).Until someone can make solar and wind a cheap, reliable energy source, Florida will always be severely dependent on petroleum producing states.

Mobile is a huge steaming pile, and has been for decades - but it’s proximity to Florida has nothing to do with that

Yeah, you know it's fun to piss Florida people off sometimes. Really, when I was young, I loved Florida for the beaches and craziness. Now I'm not much of a beach person anymore, and hate hot oppressive climates, and crowds. If I had a choice, I would never go farther south than where I live. It still gets hot here in summer too, but you can usually go down to the creek, and catch a cool breeze, and cool your feet in the cold water, and no bum will stumble out of the woods, and hit you up for beer money.

I left the Sunshine State

When ever you seem to hear the bizarre and crazy stories on the news, they seem most frequently to come from 2 states.

OH
FL

I lived in both and am happy to not live in either now. I do miss the Everglades but once the drug lords moved in in the 70's it all went to hell. Used to be a great place to fish and drink beer.

I see these types of post about state separations . As not only impractical it’s mind numbing to think of . If anything leads to this by chance then we got so bigger issues than a state(s) leaving . Upon such possibilities you would have a encroachment on OUR shores and OUR country would be under such turmoil . The thought of a separation would be secondary and out of necessity the Red Dawn scenario . I’d rather push the need for PUB rule and slow the progs . Revamp education to benefit what is needed and not letting down our children . Higher learning institutions leadership should be prog free but not to the point of a Puritan thought . Progress does not need to be forgotten or avoided , just reasonable.

South Florida is so different than the rest of the state.

Texas would like a word. And we would most likely have an alliance with Florida.

Patriots need to move to California in droves and help unleash the greatest state in the union to its potential glory.

Texas WAS an independent nation once. It’s even more poised to be one today due to the infrastructure and resources.
