I’d put my money on young Harry S Truman. He was one tough little SOB.

I really like these Monty Pythonesque “What If Eleanor Roosevelt Could Fly?” hypotheticals. The answer to this one is : Gerald Ford. Possibly because he’s the only President I ever met and also shook hands with (strong grip, steely eye, and a smile) and he was as old then as the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. He was mvp of Michigan’s championship teams in the 1930’s, an All-American center and linebacker, turned down pro offers from Green Bay and the Bears, went to Yale to law school where he was, among other things…the coach of the boxing team. Then, he went to war in the Pacific.

I don't get Lincoln. Sure he was on the frontier and there have been fictionalized movies portraying him as a badass, but he was a bookish lawyer.
Lincoln was bookish , but a self educated man who barely attended any school at all. A " frontier" lawyer who didn't attend law school , but was a lawyers apprentice & got his License not much different than an Electrician today. A wiry " railsplitter" they called him. Probably a fairly tough guy.

Much of Teddy's outdoorsman personna was propaganda. When he was heading out west he did a publicity photo with his western garb.....until someone pointed out his hunting knife was bought from Tiffanys. lol. He did take a bullet and then give a speech, though they say the folded up speech in his breast pocket blocked much of the force of the bullet....thank goodness it was so long the speech was several pages...

Andrew Jackson carried a bullet close to his chest from a duel where his opponent shot him first and then ole hickory gained his composure and shot and killed the fella. He was a bad arse.

Pretty clear who wins if spouses are included...

I’ll put my money on Zachary Taylor.

He was a badass - died too young.

I feel like Jefferson could throw hands pretty well

Those late 1800s guys looked pretty hard like Hayes, Garfield, Cleveland

Grant in his prime. He was a brawler at West Point and as legend had it could frick you up with one punch. It is what held him back and had him telegated to California before the Civil War....that and drinking.

Ford was a fantastic athlete and a tough guy when he was younger.....also ridiculously smart.

Lincoln could fight. He did not shy away from a good brawl.
